Batman V Superman has been getting bad reviews. Here’re 10 reasons why

For over two years, many of us were anticipating the battle between two of our favourite superheroes: Batman and Superman. These two evergreen superheroes are so well-known that great grandparents, grandparents, parents and children all know who they are—and it’s expected that when we realized a movie with the title Batman V Superman,  the boy in us all went apeshit.

After years of waiting, the movie is finally out now in cinema—and just like many fans, I got to watch it and expected it to be a masterpiece. But before that, I saw the reviews online and realize it wasn’t all good: the average review in Rotten Tomatoes is at 5.1 out of 10, compared to Man of Steel that is at 6.2 out of 10. And just for your info, Zootopia, a movie still in cinema, is at 8.1 out of 10.

So, why is it bad? Well, based on personal opinion, and what is mentioned in reviews (which, unfortunately, I’ll have to agree on most points), here’re ten reasons why.

It’s pretty predictable
Maybe it’s just the fact that we all know Batman and Superman are going to be friends again, so we more or less know the battle is just because of a misunderstanding—sort of. After all, both are superheroes and aren’t villains—we knew it even before we were born.

The plot isn’t as good as Man of Steel or The Dark Knight Trilogy
This movie is supposed to be the successor for Men of Steel and The Dark Knight Trilogy. The predecessors might have less action (okay, Men of Steel was crazy with action) but the storytelling was beyond expectation. Remember how Batman has to choose between the group of prisoners and his love interest? You won’t find any of these in Batman V Superman, because it’s just Batman against Superman (or Batman & Superman against Villains).

The plot twist is so not plot twist
You need to watch it to understand what I’m talking about. And you’ll agree, trust me.

Batman is no longer illogical
The Batman I remember is one who is emotional but also logical. But here, he’s like a maniac. Ben Afflect did well in his role, but the Batman we knew seemed to have disappeared.

It’s just an introduction to more movies
The Dark Knight did its introduction with a great movie—this, well, this is like an introduction filled with lots of action, cool talks and then an ending that says, “Watch out for more movies!”

Too many things packed into 2.5 hours
We’ve got Superman going on trial, we’ve got Superman V Batman, we’ve got new (or I should say old) villains, and we’ve got Wonder Woman. Have I mentioned Doomsday and Lex Luthor? And Superman and Batman becoming friends? And Lois Lane?

We don’t get enough of Wonder Woman
Okay, you need to be there to understand this, but we want more Wonder Woman. Give us a Wonder Woman movie already!

It’s technically not Batman V Superman
Because you and I know it: you only see them fighting in trailers because that’s what everyone wants to see. But it’s not a movie just about Batman against Superman. I don’t even need to tell you the spoilers of how they become friends eventually, right?

It’s yet another “trailer is better than movie” movie
Sadly, yes, that’s true. I can watch the trailer 10 times and not get bored of it, but I could only watch the movie once. And that’s it. Whoever watches an introduction twice?

So many characters, so confusing, so incoherent
I don’t know how The Avengers did it so perfectly, but here, it gets confusing pretty easy. Yes, it’s just Batman and Superman and I’m already confused: my favourite Lois Lane didn’t even get enough screen time, because Batman talks too much and fights too much. It’s not easy to cramp so many characters in one movie, and this is a perfect example of when it’s not done well.
