Remember back during Circuit Breaker how parks, which were initially open, were closed to the public after people showed up in droves?
Well, history is repeating itself again, this time in Phase Two.
Minister Says Beaches ‘Extremely Crowded’ & Part of Them Would Be Closed
On 21 Jul 2020, the discipline master of Singapore, Mr Masagos Zulkifli, took to Facebook to highlight his latest concern: Complacent Singaporeans.
Goodboii77: Wth you talking about? People in Singapore are all law-abiding citizens here-
Goodboii77: Oh, habit lah. If people come along to tell us to disperse, we’ll probably-
The second image above shows a poor safe-distancing ambassador or enforcement officer who was met with hostility while advising people to disperse.
Well, it seems like Mr Masagos is back to his old job (at least for the time being).
Citing his concern for complacency setting in, Mr Masagos said that beaches at East Coast and Sentosa were crowded over the past weekend.
Many of his safe-distancing ambassadors (SDA) and enforcement officers (EO) came across groups that consist of more than 10 people.
Many of them were also spotted without masks.
When approached, they merely said they were “eating or drinking”.
NParks, he added, has segmented the more popular beach fronts at East Coast Park since early July.
When things get too crowded, they’ll close selected sections.
Authorities Will Step Up Enforcement
The kiddy gloves are off, according to Mr Masagos.
He pledged that they (the authorities) will be “stepping up enforcement”.
He pointed out that 18 people will be charged in court for gathering at a place of residence for social reasons during Circuit Breaker this week.
In addition, a further 10 will also be charged for having a liquor-tasting session, complete with tables and chairs, at a fitness corner during Phase 2.
Fines will be given out for violations, he warns.
He added that people here can check the NParks website which shows the crowd levels at various parks and beaches before making their way there.

Obey The Rules
If you’re not aware of what the rules of Phase 2 are, here’s a brief outline:
- Socialise in groups of not more than 5 people
- Wear a mask unless exercising, eating or drinking
- Maintain a safe distance of 1-metre between groups
- Use SafeEntry
Did you notice that within the rules, there aren’t any explicit instructions to stay at home? That’s because it’s Phase 2 and we all understand the need to get away from Cabin Fever, or should I say, HDB fever (for most of us).
But as a minister has warned, we could easily go back into Circuit Breaker (version 2.0) if the numbers spike again.
In other words, don’t spoil market, please.
