Drying clothes may be a priority in this exceptionally rainy January, but even so…
Your life still takes precedence over everything else.
As such, the thought of hanging your leg out just to ensure that your clothes dry comes across as not only an irrational notion…

But also a potentially life-threatening one.
And yet, it appears that someone has done it.
Man Had One Leg Out of Bedok Flat Window to Hang Clothes
A 74-year-old man in Bedok has attempted the unthinkable in a desperate attempt to dry his clothes:
Hanging his clothes outside the window of his 10th floor flat.
Now this wouldn’t have exactly sounded precarious in any way, had it not been for two things:
- It was not your usual drying spot
- He had to swing a leg over the window and bend at the waist to reach it
At least three shirts and several pairs of pants were hung up, reported Lianhe Wanbao.
To put it into perspective, I’ve seen Fear Factor contestants do less and still walk away with the grand prize.
According to news reports, the act was witnessed by a resident in the opposite block on Tuesday (12 January 2021).

Chastised
The elderly man has since responded, and he has a reason for his reckless act.
According to Lianhe Wanbao, he professed that due to the ceaseless rain, he had been unable to dry his laundries.
Desperate, his attempt to dry his clothes by the aircon compressor was a last-ditch effort at rectifying the situation.
What about the danger, you may wonder. Apparently, it seems that the elderly man thought nothing of the risks involved.
“It’s fine,” he smiled and said. “It’s not dangerous.”

But his younger sister evidently thought otherwise.
Displeased, she started to reprimand him, and the 74-year-old reportedly turned around and went into his room.
Measures
According to AsiaOne, what the elderly man has done does not specifically count as a legal offence.
However, he could potentially cause a high-rise hazard if his clothing rack went off the ledge.
According to the Housing Development Board’s rules against killer litter, situating items in a hazardous manner inside or outside a flat entails a fine of up to $2,000.

Safety Takes Precedence
Although the saying “desperate times call for desperate measures” does exist, it should be noted that the desperate measures in question should not come at the potential expense of your life.Â
It should also, in hindsight, not violate the law in any sense.
Instead of endangering yourself, why not check out Steigen Singapore’s automated laundry system?
It dries your clothes at a more rapid pace, without the risks and/or fines.
You can check that out here.
