According to media reports, police were alerted to the case at around 5:50pm.

Upon arrival of paramedics at the scene, they found the woman and baby lying motionless, and they were pronounced dead.

The cause of their demise remains unclear, and it has been ruled as an unnatural death thus far.

Investigations are currently ongoing.

Postpartum Depression

Possible causes of mother-infant suicides include stress and depression during the postpartum period.

Back in November 2016, a mother had also jumped from their flat on the 12th storey in Bukit Panjang with her two-month-old baby.

Koh Suan Ping, 29, was bogged down with stress about finding a replacement helper, not being able to produce enough milk for her daughter, and her company’s performance.

Unable to cope with the stress, Koh then jumped to her death while holding her baby in her arms, with the intention of dying together.

Findings from State Coroner Marvin Bay attributed postpartum depression as a cause of the suicide, urging for the country to provide more support for new working mothers facing stress on both work and baby issues.
