I‘m pretty sure that Big Bang (not Big Bang theory) is considered one of the legends in the k-pop industry. Most people will probably know them for their song “Bang Bang Bang”, and this iconic move:
Now, this new scandal that rocked the entertainment industry is sure to be added to their reputation.
If you don’t know about this news yet, no worries, I’ve got your back.
So you can go and comfort that friend of yours who loves Big Bang to bits.
Here goes the breakdown of the scandal; hold on to your seats, because you’re in for a ride.
Text Messages Between Employees Leaked
Once upon a time, Dispatch leaked text messages between employees on assaults at Burning Sun, a club operated by Seungri.
As if that wasn’t controversial enough, Seungri got accused of personally using drugs and circulating them. Seungri takes to Instagram to apologize and explain it all.
Happy ending, right? Apparently not.
More text messages got reported to the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission because now the police can’t be trusted as well for reportedly colluding with Seungri.
Seungri got charged by the police, and now has to participate in police investigations. YG, the agency that manages him, sees their stock drop by 14% — to a layman, not a business-savvy person, that basically means a lot of money that we can never afford.
This scandal comes to a near close with a big bang (pun intended).
Lastly comes the huge blow: on 11 Mar 2019 (you can tell already that this is groundbreaking).
I Quit For The Sake of YG & #BigBang
Seungri decided to quit his job as a k-pop idol.
Didn’t get that the first time? Seungri quit his job. As a resident fan of k-pop, officially quitting showbiz seems pretty unprecedented.
He took to Instagram once again to deliver the devastation, writing that he did so “for the sake of YG and #BigBang” (we can’t miss the hashtag culture even in times of tragedy). A valiant sacrifice from a soldier to protect his comrades.
Cue the flood of tears from their millions of fans. The tears would probably be enough to fill our little red dot.
This is truly the toughest time for their fans, who have to cry over an incomplete Big Bang and cry again once Seungri enlists on 25 March 2019.
Regardless of the outcome of this scandal, let’s hope along with VIPs (one of the sweetest fandom names) that Big Bang will eventually come back together, just like the Jonas Brothers.
