Dramatic Weight Loss Journey in Three Months
Former radio DJ Dongfang Billy, also known as Billy Wang, who has been living in Jiangsu, China in recent years, returned to Singapore to vote for the upcoming general elections.
When he came back to Singapore late last year, many people who saw him exclaimed that he had “grown a size larger.”
He candidly admitted that he “became so fat that he didn’t like himself,” which prompted him to make a firm decision to lose weight. In just three months, he successfully lost 21kg!

Having reduced from 121kg to 100kg, Billy Wang flew to Singapore two days ago and went directly to Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park, where he did stretching exercises with more than 100 fans.
In an interview with Shin Min Daily News, Billy Wang openly shared his weight loss secrets: “I eat very small portions, but make sure my nutrition is balanced. During the day, I drink large amounts of pu’er tea, and I get plenty of quality sleep.”
“For the first month, I didn’t exercise at all and relied only on minimal food intake. In the second month, I began slow jogging, 10 minutes each in the morning, afternoon, and evening. After two weeks, I gradually started doing stretching exercises. Throughout this period, I completely avoided all snacks.”
Health Struggles and Determination
Having just turned 60 last year, Billy Wang mentioned that he has become “a good doctor through long illness.”
Over the past 20 years, he has gone through countless cycles of weight gain, but fortunately has always managed to slim down successfully.
However, he also admits that losing weight is very difficult, especially while he’s taking medication and still needs to work.
“The side effects of obesity caused by large amounts of medication are the most difficult, painful, frightening, and challenging life problems to solve. No one has my personal experience, so I can only keep looking for benchmarks and rely on ‘willpower’ to try to accomplish what seems impossible.”
Billy Wang has suffered from various health issues during the pandemic. In July 2021, he needed surgery for a torn meniscus, and in September, he had surgery for a detached retina in his right eye.

In September of the following year, he had another surgery for a herniated lumbar disc, and in November of the same year, he was hospitalised after being diagnosed with COVID-19.
These various injuries and illnesses not only temporarily prevented Billy from exercising but also led to obesity due to medication side effects.
He revealed that his weight had previously been maintained between 88kg and 92kg. Last year, he became so overweight that he disliked himself and fell into self-doubt.
The obesity also brought great inconvenience to his life—walking, putting on shoes, personal hygiene, and daily activities became very difficult.
He even felt that “the internal organs were slowly affecting each other and noticeably accelerating in decline.”

His personal life routine and emotions were greatly affected, so he told himself he must lose weight and would not give up until he reached his goal.
Civic Duty as a Nee Soon Voter
Besides meeting and interacting with fans in different places during this trip to Singapore and doing stretching exercises together to encourage seniors to exercise more, Billy Wang is also fulfilling his civic duty by participating in the general election.
He revealed that he became a Singapore citizen on 1 Apr 1992 and is now a voter in the Nee Soon district.
