Have you done something incredibly stupid when you’re still young and immature?
I’m sure you did.
Well, when you’re a young and famous internet influencer, that “tiny” mistake can really snowball into something so much more horrifying… like an online stalker and a blackmailer.
As the idiom goes, it’s no use crying over spilled milk, but thankfully, in this case, there’s at least a silver lining here – the influencer got some justice and the creep got his due.
It all started on Instagram
According to ShinMin Daily (新明日报), the accused, 24-year-old Liang JianYao (梁健耀), reached out to the unnamed 18-year-old famous internet influencer through her Instagram in 2018 with a “business proposal”.
At that time, the influencer has around 20,000 to 30,000 followers on the platform.
He wanted 10 half-naked photos of the influencer and had agreed to pay her S$330 for them. She agreed, so money and photos exchanged virtual hands.
However, later that same year, the influencer regretted her decision and decided to refund the money to the accused.
Unfortunately for her, the accused is not taking no for an answer.
He continued to pester the influencer for more nude photos.
The harassment proved to be too much for her and she ended up blocking him on Instagram.
“You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry”
Admittedly, no one likes being “blocked” but apparently, this action greatly enraged the 24-year-old accused, and considering the leverage he has over the influencer, he has had plenty of time to plot his revenge.
The following year, he created 2 separate accounts in two different months to blackmail the young lady to send him new nude photos.
In his blackmails, he threatened to send the half-naked photos he already has of her to her family, her followers on Instagram, and to professional photographers.
Refusing to continue down the wrong path, the influencer refused to comply with his demands.
The accused then claimed that he wanted to “bring her down with him”.
With nowhere else to turn to, she decided to log a police report on September 27, 2019.
As a result of the 7 charges that he faced, including violations of the Children and Young Persons Act, and criminal intimidation, the accused was sentenced to 10 months in jail.
