Imagine this situation.
Your hungry friend who needs money to survive the week, beg you for $50. Out of compassion, you lent him that money and told him to take his time.
A month later, you realise he blew that cash on something silly and you blanket party him.
Keep your friends close and your money even closer.
We’re already affected by 50 bucks but imagine getting swindled out of seven digits worth of money.
Cheated By The Manager
Do you know what’s worse? If the swindler happens to be the guy in charge of you.
That’s exactly what happened to Lisa, member of the popular K-pop group BlackPink.
On 2 June, South Korean news publication, Market News, reported that her former manager, A, promised to use the money to invest in real estate on Lisa’s behalf.
If you couldn’t guess by now, that didn’t end up happening. The guy blew everything on gambling.
And how much did he blow?
Well…about the equivalent of S$1.14 million.
You could use that money here to buy a car, pay the COE and then some.

A Trusted Person
As if the punch to the gut wasn’t big enough.
This “A” guy was the manager who worked with BlackPink from the beginning and was a well-respected figure among company employers and the idol group.
No time like the present for this phrase.
Korean pop culture website, Soompi, also mentioned that Lisa was a foreigner and came from Thailand at a very young age. This makes her more susceptible to things like scams.
“It is very unfortunate that these things happen in the industry. This is a serious situation that can damage the management’s image.”
YG Entertainment also released a statement confirming the matter and have classified it as a fraud.
Settling Things Peacefully
Despite everything that has happened, Lisa still wishes to settle things peacefully as A was someone she had trusted for a long time.
As of now, A has paid back half of the total sum and is on a reimbursement plan for the remaining amount.
Unsurprisingly, YG entertainment also reported that A has left the company.
The company has also apologised for the mishap and has ensured the public that this will not happen again.
It feels bad that the good rapport between a former manager and group has to end but a crime is a crime.
It might be tempting but remember that money can’t buy your way out of consequences.
