When the police received a call for assistance this morning at Marina Boulevard, they likely expected it to be a rescue mission.

But when they arrived on the scene, they were shocked to find the dead body of a man instead.

Man’s Body Pulled Out from Marina Reservoir This Morning (19 Oct)

At 8.44 am this morning (19 Oct), the police received a call for assistance along 11 Marina Boulevard.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was activated at 8.50am, and arrived on the scene soon after.

However, they could not find anyone in the water, according to The Straits Times

So, divers from the Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) were deployed to perform an underwater search in the Marina Reservoir.

“(They) subsequently retrieved a body approximately two metres from shore,” said SCDF.

The man’s corpse was pulled out from Marina Reservoir near the Promontory. He was only wearing shorts.

At this moment, details of how he ended up in the reservoir or how he died are still unclear.

Similar Case On 9 Sep

While such an incident is alarming, similar incidents have occurred this year.

Just last month, the body of a 65-year-old man was found in Pang Sua Pond in Bukit Panjang.

Just like today’s incident, the police and SCDF were called in to perform a water rescue, but couldn’t find a body when they arrived.

Consequently, DART divers had to perform an underwater search and eventually managed to locate the body, which was around 30 metres from the shore.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic.

It’s eerie how similar these two cases are.

Three Other Incidents This Year

Back in March, the body of a 57-year-old woman was found floating in the waters near VivoCity. The body was retrieved by SCDF paramedics and pronounced dead at the scene.

A month later, a male corpse was discovered floating in the waters of Bedok Reservoir. Just like the previous case, the police categorised the incident as a case of unnatural death.

Then, in May, the police were alerted to yet another a case of unnatural death after a body of a man was found in the waters of Tampines Quarry along Tampines Avenue 10.

Police Investigations Ongoing

With such a bizarre and inexplicable death, questions are bound to be raised.

Police investigations are still ongoing.
