Does the phrase “Do you have a badge?” ring a certain scenario in your head?
Yup. Just last month, we’ve witnessed the whole account of how that lady refused to mask up at Marina Bay Sands.
If you think that will be the last instance of defiant attitude, well not quite.
Because this man soon came along, displaying similar characteristics.
British man arrested after riding MRT Train maskless
On 8 May, a viral clip posted on Facebook page ROADS.sg showed a sovereign without a mask on a train. He was on his way home from work.
In the video, several commuters were seen actively urging him to put on a mask, as he should.
Train operator SMRT made a police report after being alerted to the man’s behaviour. Benjamin Glynn, a 39-year-old British man, was then promptly arrested hours later by the police.
Glynn then spent 28 hours behind bars after being charged for being a public nuisance. His passport is also confiscated.
The father of two claims that he should be allowed to go back to the UK since he already has intentions to leave Singapore.
Don’t hate the player, hate the game.
If you’re going to be in Singapore, the least you could do is to abide by our rules.
The logic for not wearing a mask
His logic for staying maskless?
Masks are “pointless” and fail to protect people from contracting COVID-19. To his beliefs, it’s all a “hoax”.
“From a scientific basis, I think it’s nonsense.” he proclaimed.
He also added that “I don’t feel there is any evidence to show mask-wearing is effective in any way.”
That big brain energy though.
He finds this “ridiculous’
Glynn said: “This whole situation is ridiculous. I think it’s insane that I am facing a trial at all, just for not wearing a mask.”
Erm just for not wearing a mask?
Sir, just by wearing a mask, tons of lives may be potentially saved.
At the moment, Glynn is jobless as he was supposed to transfer to a position back in the UK. But that decision has now been recalled.
Since January 2017, he had been working for a Singapore branch of a British recruitment company.
Not the first time being maskless in public
According to the Daily Mail interview, Glynn divulged that he had gone maskless in Singapore multiple times.
Normally, he would just tell people he’s “exempted” and that has “never been an issue”.
Well, at least not in his eyes.
