Imagine that you’re sitting in the bus while on your way to work, being anxious about whether you’re going to reach on time or not.
Only to have the bus driver stop in the middle of the route and leave the bus to go to the toilet.
Which would be understandable as human nature calls out to everyone and bus drivers also have the right to take toilet breaks if they need them, right?
It’s common to encounter bus drivers doing so, if you take the bus often.
However, eyebrows will begin to rise when the bus driver not only takes a long time, but also does things unnecessarily to relieving themselves – on more than one occasion.
Bus Driver Stops To Take A Toilet Break
A concerned bus passenger wrote into Lianhe Wanbao to relate his experience with a bus driver who took a few suspicious toilet breaks while driving the bus.
The passenger, only known as Mr Li, said that he sometimes took the bus number 966, which is a double-decker bus that travels from Marine Parade to Toa Payoh, to work.
On the 15th and 16th of July, he shared that had to take the bus to go to work at about 1pm on both days consecutively.
Upon boarding the bus on the first day, he sat at the top deck of the bus, which was rather crowded on that day.
Halfway through the journey, the bus driver pulled over in front of a bus stop along Still Road and announced loudly that he would be going to the toilet.
According to Mr Li, the passengers were all confused, looking around at each other.
They saw the bus driver walk to a nearby petrol station before returning five minutes later and continuing to drive.
Of course, this is something that many people may have experienced before, so despite it being surprising, it was nothing to make an issue of.
He Did It Again The Next Day
However, it all started to get a bit suspicious when the bus driver did it again the next day – like a bad case of deja vu.
Mr Li boarded the same bus again the following day, recalling his peculiar experience the previous day.
When he saw that the bus driver was the same one he had met on the bus yesterday, he wondered what the chances of it happening again would be.
Well, he was indeed lucky enough to see it happen again.
Maybe he should buy some 4D numbers.
This time, however, after parking at the same place to go to the toilet at the petrol kiosk, Mr Li recounted that the driver did not seem like he was in a rush to do so.
Instead, the driver was walking slowly with his wallet in hand, leaving passengers stunned.
Mr Li did not take the bus again for the rest of the week, so it’s unclear if going to the toilet at the same place at the same time had become a habit for the driver during the route.
Yet, this incident left him questioning what the working guidelines for bus drivers were if they ever needed to go for a toilet break while driving the bus, although he recognised that the call of human nature was excusable.
Despite the inconvenience, it’s difficult to judge the situation indeed, and a response from the bus company has yet to be obtained.
Perhaps one should start looking into having toilets on buses, huh?
If you’re afraid of meeting such bus drivers, why not cycle to your destination instead. Before you do that, watch this video so you’ll get acquitted with the laws cyclists must follow:
