During the early hours of Sunday, a 54-year-old bus driver died in a vehicular accident in Hougang.
The accident was brought to the police’s attention at 2:47am in Defu Avenue 1 towards Hougang Avenue 3.
Photos and a video circulating on Facebook show an SBS Transit bus with a smashed windscreen after it crashed into a tree.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force stated that its officers had to extract the driver who was trapped in his seat.
He was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic.
According to SBS Transit, the driver had been steering an empty employees’ bus towards Hougang Depot at 2:40am when it lost control, subsequently hitting a tree outside the bus depot.
The bus operator added that they were “deeply saddened” by his demise and have reached out to his family to offer their heartfelt condolences. They are also in close contact with them to give them all the help that they need.
Police investigations are ongoing.
NTUC Assistant Secretary-General and National Transport Workers’ Union Executive Secretary, Melvin Yong, has put up a Facebook post in response to the fatal accident.

He said that the driver is a Union Representative, and was known to them as 阿龙.
He had been a bus captain with SBS Transit for more than 20 years.
