The road is a dangerous place. That’s why road safety and competent drivers are so important.
Unfortunately, accidents do happen and just recently, a bus ran over the foot of a 69-year-old woman.
Here’s what happened.
The Incident
The incident occurred on the night of 30 March.
According to Shin Min Daily News, it took place at the junction of Beach Road and Jalan Sultan.
An eyewitness, Wenfu, told Shin Min that he was about to cross the road in front of The Concourse when he heard screams from the opposite side.
The photographer ran over to investigate the noise and found an injured woman.
The skin of her right foot had been torn off, and she was bleeding profusely.
She was in excruciating pain and allegedly screamed, “I don’t want to live anymore!”
Passers-by attempted to comfort the injured woman.
A bus had run the woman’s foot over.
An employee of a nearby restaurant told Shin Min that he saw two people banging on the bus door.
He did not hesitate to call the ambulance, but someone had already reported the incident.
He noted that many people had assisted in reporting the matter to the police.
He said, “Looking at her injury, her foot probably shattered. That’s why there was so much blood.”
He added that the bus driver had left the bus to find out what happened before returning to his seat.
The bus driver then moved the bus as the wheel was on the woman’s foot.
The police told Shin Min Daily News that they received an alert at 9.05 pm.
The Victim
The victim was a 69-year-old woman.
She is reportedly the owner of a Japanese restaurant and was sent to the hospital in a conscious state.
Wenfu noted that the woman’s husband was notified of the accident and rushed over within a few minutes.
According to him, the woman was in so much pain that Wenfu had to explain what had happened over the phone.
Bus Driver Arrested
The bus driver was arrested on suspicion of negligent driving causing hurt.
The 41-year-old was taken away at around 11 pm after the police had finished their investigations.
Allegedly, he was heading to a hotel to pick up passengers.
He said he was unfamiliar with the area and didn’t see the woman while turning the bus.
He also noted that the drizzle impacted his vision.
He added that he was only made aware of the woman’s injuries when he heard people banging on the bus door.
