Taobao, one of the largest (and profitable) shopping sites in the world needs no introduction.
You would have probably surfed their site during this holiday season for your last minute gift shopping as they have everything under the sun, from vegetable peelers to mop shoes and even aeroplanes!
So it should be no surprise when I tell you that you can purchase a 39-storey building via Taobao, if you have the moolah!
According to Straits Times, the building in question is in Taiyuan, northern Shanxi province and it is being auctioned off by a Chinese court, along with the land it sits on.
Standing at 156m high and spanning over more than 76,000 sqm of floor space, the said building was initially designed to be a hotel.
Construction began in 2006 but the project didn’t come to fruition due to a lack of funding after the completion of the construction work in 2010, according to a statement by the Shanxi Provincial Higher People’s Court.
If you’re wondering how much it costs…well, the auction starting price is at 553 million yuan and that is about S$113.5 million.
So get your credit card ready as it will be publicly auctioned on 2 Jan 2018!
This is not a unique case as most Chinese courts have set up accounts on Taobao and items such as cars, confiscated jewellery, mobiles phone have been sold on the site.
