Last night’s COVID-19 press conference was filled with various interesting trivia: Lawrence Wong finally wore black instead of his usual pink or blue, Gan Kim Yong appeared from a TV because he’s serving his Health Alert Warning and there’s a guest star, Manpower Minister Tan See Leng.
While most of the announcements don’t affect us directly since no new restrictions were lifted or removed, two things struck out.
Firstly, it was mentioned that by mid-October, we might be seeing 5,000 cases a day.

And secondly, Mr Wong said that many of us would eventually contract COVID-19.
Lawrence Wong: Many of Us Will End Up Catching the Virus
Last year, people were asking, “Eh, you tested already?”
Earlier this year, people were asking, “Eh, you vaccinated already?”
Soon, people might be asking, “Eh, you kena already?”
With so many people contracting COVID-19 in recent weeks, it’s no surprise that people have been washing their hands much more often, worried that the people beside them are COVID-19 positive.
Mr Wong has a message: there’s nothing to be embarrassed if you really caught the virus.
Urging Singaporeans not to get too carried away or fearful about the daily number, he said that the goal now is to ensure that our healthcare system isn’t overwhelmed,.
He said, “We have already said because of our high vaccination rate, we are no longer focusing solely on headline numbers.”

Highlighting that 98% of patients in Singapore have mild to no symptoms, he said that this group of people have “nothing to be fearful about” as they’ll recover from it within a few days.
He then added, “In fact, there’s nothing to be embarrassed about if you catch COVID-19, because sooner or later, many of us will end up catching the virus.”
Soon, Singapore will be eventually reach a stage where its population has both a high level of vaccination and natural immunity, perhaps in a few months.
Review of Restriction to be Set for Next Week
Currently, the group size has been reduced to two people per group, and by next week, we’ll be halfway through the stabilisation phase, whereby a review is scheduled.
It’s unknown if the restrictions have any impact yet as it takes at least a week for any measure to show results.

However, there are some signs that transmission is slowing as the number of new daily cases to double is now longer.
