If you follow football, you probably know of Manchester United.
Alex Ferguson is also likely a name you recognise since he was the former manager of the football club.
If you are really into Manchester United, you may know of Cathy Ferguson, who is the wife of Alex Ferguson.
Unfortunately, Cathy Ferguson passed away early this year at the age of 84.
Cathy and Alex Ferguson were married for almost 60 years.
Here is more about what happened to Cathy Ferguson.
Cathy Ferguson Dies at 84 Years Old
Last Thursday (5 October 2023), Cathy Ferguson passed away at the ripe old age of 84.
Following her death, Manchester United (the football club) put out an official notice saying that everyone at Manchester United “sends our heartfelt condolences to Sir Alex Ferguson and his family on the passing of Lady Cathy”.
They called Lady Cathy a “beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother”.
She was also credited as a “tower of strength for Sir Alex throughout his career”.
That must be true, given that the couple had been married since 1966. That’s just a year shy of how old Singapore is.
Because of Lady Cathy’s death, the Manchester United players will be wearing “black armbands during Saturday’s game against Brentford” as a mark of respect to the deceased.
For those who are unaware, Sir Alex retired as the manager of Manchester United in 2013 but continues to be revered by fans of the club.
He had spent more than 26 years coaching that team, with many successes through his coaching career.
The death of Lady Cathy was confirmed in a press statement to the PA news agency last Friday (6 October 2023).
Apart from her husband. Lady Cathy leaves behind her three sons, Mark, Darren, and Jason Ferguson, two sisters, 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Cathy Ferguson Was a Pillar in Her Husband Alex Ferguson’s Life
For those who may now know Lady Cathy, she is known to be the beloved wife of Sir Alex.
Their love story, which spanned 57 years, began when Sir Alex met Lady Cathy when he was just 23 years old.
They were both working at the Remington Rand typewriter factory in Glasgow.
A short two years later, the couple got hitched and had their first son, Mark, two years later.
In 1972, Lady Cathy then bore Sir Alex twin sons.
The affection continued even in their later years.
Sir Alex referenced his wife as his “bedrock of both stability and encouragement” when he eventually made the decision to retire from the football club.
