Man Claims He Caught a Cobra With Just His Bare Hands & Says NParks Officers Are Impressed with Him

Are you afraid of catching cockroaches? Perhaps scream at the sight of a lizard ten times smaller than you?

Not everyone can be the strongest soldier, so smaller battles like cockroaches and lizards are handed out to us.

For this particular man however, even a cobra is nothing to him.

Catching a Cobra

A man claims that he caught a cobra with just his bare hands at Mandai golf course.

He posted a video of it on the Facebook group Singapore Wildlife Sightings, which has since been making the rounds on social media.

Apparently, the man, known as Matthew Lee on Facebook, claims that the said snake is an equatorial spitting cobra.

This snake is also known as the black spitting cobra, and is a species of spitting cobra found in Southeast Asia.

A Reptile Fanatic

Lee claims that the cobra was right next to a frequently used pavement. Concerned for the safety of members of the public, he decided to catch the cobra to let NParks relocate it.

A helpful Singaporean, I guess.

In his post, Lee adds that: “I know it is extremely dangerous to handle wild snakes, least of all a spitting kobra. But I have been a Reptile fanatic since I was a child, and I know how to handle wild snakes, and how to deal with cobras as well.”

It’s no wonder he was able to catch the cobra with his bare hands.

Lee also adds that when the officers from NParks arrived, they were “extremely surprised and confused” as to how Lee was able to catch a wild cobra without the aid of any equipment.

Purportedly, the NParks officers even offered for Lee to work for them, and that NParks could use someone like Lee.

In the post, Lee also requests for the photographers that happened to be at the golf course when he was catching the cobra to share the photos that they had took.

Honestly, those photographs would make great profile pictures.

Netizens’ reactions

Reactions to the man’s recount of his cobra-catching adventures were mixed.

Some were critical of the way he handled the snake.

“Unprofessional handling… ACRES does a better job…” said one user.

Another user also said: “Very lucky for him the spitting cobra didn’t spit its venom at his eyes never wear any safety goggles when handling spitting cobras really unprofessional”.

On the other hand, some users also commended him for his actions, while others made quips about Lee’s experience by referencing him to snake charmers.
