Bubble tea, queuing up, and free things.
Without these three essentials, no Singaporean would survive.
Fortunately for us, the government has introduced several grants and schemes to not only cushion our fall from the COVID-19 pandemic, but help us get back on our feet.
Some schemes are aimed at helping businesses stay afloat, while others tide over workers who have suffered a loss of income.
This scheme, however, helps both local merchants and consumers.
All Singaporean Households Can Collect $100 CDC Vouchers
$100 worth of community development council (CDC) vouchers will now be available for collection online.
All Singaporean households are eligible to collect these vouchers and use them at around 10,000 participating hawkers and heartland merchants.
Each household with at least one Singaporean will be able to claim $100 in vouchers. The vouchers can be used until 31 Dec 2022.
To collect them, have one member of your household head to this link, and collect the voucher digitally through Singpass.
A link will then be sent to that household member’s registered phone number, and they can then share that same link with other members of his household.
Alternatively, if you’re unable to collect the vouchers digitally, you can head to community clubs or centres for assistance, where they’ll help you print our hard copies.
How to Use Vouchers
Using the vouchers, which come in denominations of $2, $5, and $10, is just as simple:
- Click the CDC vouchers link
- Choose an amount
- Show the QR code to the merchant who will scan it
Similarly, those using hard copy vouchers need simply present the QR code on their vouchers for the merchants to scan.
Do note that you’ll have to either top up additional amounts or forfeit the remaining value, as no change will be given.
Carousellers who are already licking their lips should also note that your residential address will be stated on the vouchers; so, residents are not allowed to resell them.
1.3 Million Singaporeans to Benefit
Announced in Budget 2021, the CDC scheme is expected to benefit 1.3 million Singaporean households.
The S$130 million scheme is also an expression of gratitude for residents’ “spirit of resilience during the COVID-19 pandemic”.
Speaking about the scheme, PM Lee said that it would help support local heartland shops and hawkers that have been hit hard during the pandemic.
“It’s been challenging for everyone, especially for our residents and for our heartland businesses, to keep up with the new policies and changing situations,” he said.
“Thank you for bearing with us, and for your continued trust and support as we make our way through these difficult times.”
Over 200,000 households have already claimed their vouchers, according to PM Lee.
The authorities began inviting heartland merchants and hawkers last month to participate in the scheme. Those who have not done so can register their interest online, and a CDC Ambassador will get in touch with them to guide them through the registration process.
And here’s the answer to the burning question you’ve had: can you use the vouchers in supermarket chains like NTUC FairPrice or Giant?
The short answer: No.
Those chains definitely don’t need help.
