Earlier this month, a batch of Ceres 100% Apple Juice was recalled by Singapore Food Agency (SFA) after they were informed by the International Food Safety Authorities Network (INFOSAN). It was found to contain elevated levels of patulin after the manufacturer’s in-house testing.
In case, you are unfamiliar with this foreign word, patulin is an organic compound that can occur naturally in fruits such as apples due to fungal contamination before and after harvest.
Consumption of products with a large amount of patulin in them may cause nausea, gastrointestinal disturbances and vomiting AKA food poisoning symptoms.
If you merely had a sip of this contaminated apple juice, you would be fine. However, those who have purchased these apple juices are still advised not to consume them.
SFA Recalls Another Batch of Ceres 100% Apple Juice Due to Elevated Levels of Patulin
Normally, food recalls are done after one round of recalling. This time, things are a little different.
SFA detected another batch of apple juice with the same issue. This lead to the extension of the food recall.
The importer of these apple juice, Naspac Marketing Pte Ltd, are in the process of recalling them.
Once again, those who have purchased these juices are advised not to consume them. And those who have should seek medical advice if they have concerns about turning into Snow White by the toilet bowl.
This time, the affected batch of products are those in the single litre packages. The country of origin for these fruit juices are South Africa and the best before date is before 29 June 2022.
Previously, the batch of affected products include the 200ml and single litre packages. The best before date for the 200ml packages are 14 June 2022 while the best before date for the single litre packages are 17 June 2022. Both of these juices are from South Africa.
