Chang-e in Chinatown Gets ‘Plastic Surgery’ After Complaints That She’s Too ‘Manly’

Today is the age of unrealistic expectations.

If there is any way to crush your own soul, it is to post your own picture on Instagram.

Some random girl post, 2,000 likes. If she’s pretty, 20k likes.

If it’s a dude, then 20k likes also if he’s attractive.

But hey, an average dude like me? About 5 likes seem right. One of them also seems to be a bot, since the only reply it makes is “Nice! Great shot!” on the pictures.

There was also that Chicken Rice incident. I’d order from the same auntie, every day, for 1 month straight, mainly because there isn’t much else to eat. White chicken rice, veg on the side.

One week, I took a vacation. You’d think when I came back, the auntie would be at least happy to see a regular coming back and ask what happened.

But when I came back, not only did auntie not remember who I was, she smiled, for the first time in the 1 month at another handsome kia I’ve never seen before.

On that day, she even forgot to add veg on my order.

All I’m saying is, how to be successful in life is,

Step 1: Be Attractive.
Step 2: Don’t be not attractive.

I’d have thought that applied only to humans, but apparently… this rule now also applies to lanterns.

Alright, although I complained about our superficial society, I have to admit that that does not look like Chang-e.

In preparation for the Mid-Autumn Festival on 13 Sep 2019, Chinatown ornaments were already in preparation.

According to public interviewed by Zaobao, a 56-year-old Mr Liu said, “If not for the white rabbit on her right arms, and that it’s nearing Mid-Autumn Festival, I wouldn’t have guessed that it is Chang-e.”

Another Ms Chen, 33, said that the lantern looks gender-neutral, which does not fit the image of Chang-e, and the surrounding decorations might not fit the spirit of Mid-Autumn Festival that well.

But, Li Yong, 37 from China, thought that the decorations were very unique and had a local-flair.

Some passer-bys wondered if the space decorations had any significance, like it representing Chang-e going to the moon?

There’s also decorations like Samsui women, Raffles, photos of our MRT, some old-time scenes, and even Marina Bay. So some alluded this to the rapid advancement we had as a society.

As they say, beauty is in the eyes of the beholder.

Regardless, Chang-e got ‘plastic surgery’ anyway

Like any overly attached girlfriend in this age who got complaints about her looks by her boyfriend, Chang-e went for plastic surgery instead of embracing natural beauty.

Well actually no, there’s nothing natural about a man-made lantern, so event organiser Chinatown Festivals gave her a prettier face… in just one night after the comments surfaced.

Not bad eh? It’s like one of those scenes in movies where the plain-looking girl takes off their glasses and suddenly become attractive.

Thumbs up for efficiency and taking notice of feedback to the crew, though.

The opening ceremony is on 31 Aug 2019, and from the prep work there look to be lots of sights and activities. This year is Bicentennial after all.

Yeah, this year’s special. If you want to know more about what’s going on at Chinatown, you can visit their website here.
