With the quickly approaching end of 2020, many things will be left behind – your pants that used to be able to fit you at the start of the year, the five-people gathering limit, and most unfortunately, the multitude of familiar stores that are due to close soon.
Thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic that visited us without a proper warning this year, we’ve had to say goodbye to many of much-valued brands such as Robinsons and Esprit just to name a few, who failed the struggle to survive.
It seems like we’re receiving news of yet another closure at least once every week – and this week, the store in the spotlight’s none other than the Charlie Brown Cafe.
Goodbye, Charlie Brown Cafe
The Charlie Brown Cafe broke the news of their sad closure yesterday, Sunday 27 Dec, in a Facebook post on their page:
According to the post, the cafe’s last operating day will be on 31 December 2020, leaving fans of the cafe only a few more days to enjoy the experience there one last time.
The short and sweet farewell note provided no reason as to why they had to close after a good seven years of business.
Seven Years Of Serving
Having opened their very first outlet on the first floor of 313@Somerset in 2014, the cafe opened to some fanfare from fans of Snoopy, but also received criticism from others who found the food nothing but average, considering the steep price.
After moving to the Cathay Cineleisure, another outlet was opened in Paya Lebar’s OneKM mall, which saw the end of its run in 2017.
The halal-certified cafe serves up adorable Instagram-worthy food and drinks inspired by the Peanuts franchise featuring Snoopy and friends. Snoopy and other Peanuts merchandise can also be found for sale at the cafe.
While our shores have seen various character-themed cafes popping up over the years such as the Hello Kitty, Gudetama, Pompompurin and DC Superheroes cafes, they all ended their reign after a few years despite their original popularity when they first opened.
This means that the Charlie Brown Cafe is one of the longest themed cafes to have lasted here, and that’s a feat in itself already.
News of the cafe’s closure has brought upon sadness for its fans, with the announcement post gathering more than a hundred comments.
Many expressed how it was a shame that the cafe had to close because of the pandemic, with some especially sad since their children were big fans of the cafe and wished for the cafe to hopefully make its return someday.
All good things must come to an end, right?
