On 4 April 2021, Reddit user jethron5000 posted a rather intriguing photo on the social news website, alongside the accompanying caption:
“Saw a couple of chickens crossing the Burn Road.”
Here’s a reiteration of the scene:

Needless to say, Netizens were up in arms over the age-old question: why did they cross the road?

Why Did The Chicken Actually Cross The Road?
Contemplated for centuries by the greatest of minds including Chickbert Enstein, Chickgang Cockzart and more, the prehistoric question has since garnered over millions of possible answers, and billions of different possibilities.

Known as an exceptional instance of anti-humour, wherein the listener expects a humorous punchline only to be treated to a simple fact, the riddle joke has progressively evolved in popularity.

It can also be regarded as a pun, with “on the other side” effectively referring to the death realm.
Meanwhile, here are a few humorous takes by Harvard University, with the likes of Chickbert Einstein and co. in the featured cast list.
Albert Einstein: The chicken did not cross the road. The road passed beneath the chicken.
