Whenever people feel that the weather is too hot for their liking, they would seek shelter in air-conditioned places such as a shopping mall or a café.
However, the elderly folks in Chongqing, China, has a more unique place in mind.
To shelter themselves from the intolerable heatwaves, they have decided to take refuge in the supermarkets, where there is free air-conditioning.
Customers Visit Every Day
China has recently experienced its worst heatwave on record and this has led to people taking various measures to keep themselves cool.
In a video by DouYin user Yang (杨), elderly can be seen scattered all over the supermarket in Chongqing. Some brought chairs, while others settled for sitting on the floor.
According to the store owner, who is also the person behind the video, the elderly have been visiting the store after 7pm every day for the past month.
In the caption of his video, Yang mentioned “ 做我的顾客我宠你”, which roughly translates to “be my customer, I will spoil you”, indicating that he does not mind them chilling in his supermarket.
Oh, by the way, if you are thinking “got so hot meh?”. The answer is yes, because temperatures have hit 40 degrees Celsius in some areas.

Other Cities Also Affected
If you think it is absurd for people to be sitting on chairs and floors in a supermarket, you thought wrong.
In a separate video shown by South China Morning Post (SCMP), people of Hubei can be seen lying down on the bottom rows of empty shelves.
Apparently, the staff of the supermarket tried to get them to leave, but their efforts went down the drain despite multiple efforts.
