Youth Boasts Online About How He Used Connections To Evade Hubei Travel Ban; Father, Who’s a China Official, Suspended

While it’s not productive to panic in a situation such as the COVID-19 epidemic, it certainly pays to be cautious.

Reader: Yup, that’s why I cleaned out the two Sheng Siongs near my house, quit my job, and left my family to stay in a one-bedroom apartment untill this dies down.

Uh, ok that’s a little too cautious. But at least it’s better than evading a travel ban and bragging about it.

Youth Boasts Online About How He Used Connections To Evade Travel Ban; Father, Who’s a China Official, Suspended

If for whatever reason you’re quarantined or asked not to leave your state, it’s pretty clear what you have to do; obey the law.

So, when one man in China boasted online about escaping the Hubei travel ban using his father’s connections, people were pissed.

The man, He Hao, was serving a 14-day quarantine in Tianmen at the time. His father, He Yanfang, is the head of the Jingzhou commerce bureau’s market operation department, according to China Daily.

As you know, a deadly coronavirus has ravaged China and spread to other parts of the world.

That’s why many roads and highways have been closed off in the country; to prevent the spread of the illness.

But the authorities forgot about one disease more deadly than COVID-19; stupidity.

Boasted online

In a post on Weibo, the younger He bragged about how he managed to escape Tianmen and get back to Jingzhou after he finished his 14-day quarantine.

The post’s caption says “Tianmen, bye bye”.

According to Mothership, he added that he used to think that his father had no real power as an official, but this particular incident changed his mind.

The car that he escaped in was supposed to bring purchased supplies from Tianmen to Jingzhou, but He’s father used his personal ties to make the car pick his son up as well.

According to China Daily, He Yanfang has been suspended and the case is being investigated.

The younger He posted an apology online soon after.

Be Cautious

I know that I’m talking to Singaporeans here and that I don’t need to say this, but to those who are taking this lightly, please, be cautious.

The number of cases here seems to be decreasing with each passing day – 3 more cases were confirmed yesterday, bringing the total to 75 – but we should still be careful.

For instance, if the authorities tell you to stay in isolation – stay in isolation. If you need to know what instant noodles to have, check out this article.
