China’s Latest Monkey King Movie Basically Ripped Off Hollywood’s Iron Man

China’s very well-known around the world for their talented people.

I mean, we used to write about stuff like this amateur aviator who built his own helicopter:

That works, by the way.

And their amazing talent at ripping off stuff.

But this time’s a little bit different.

This time, even Chinese netizens are criticising the complete ripoff.

Here’s what happened.

Sun Wukong is an iconic character in Chinese legends, and there’s been many different films and TV shows based on him.

Like the latest movie co-produced by Beijing’s Daishu Movie and Guangzhou’s Grandmet Presentation

In the latest movie named Armoured War God Monkey King, Sun Wukong goes through heaven and hell to save his girl.

But this time, instead of plucking out his hair and calling out smaller Suns, he got an advanced battle suit and fight against equally high-tech enemies.

Sounds…interesting?

Probably, until the trailer came out.

Blatant Rip-off Lor

The filmmakers of the movie admitted that they were heavily influenced by the Transformers, Iron Man and Gundam.

Netizens who saw the trailer said it’s just an Iron Man rip-off.

And we agree after watching through the trailer ourselves.

The way the male lead was suited up just gives you the deja vu vibes.

And did I mention the CGI effects yet?

Someone in the office actually asked if it’s a live action movie or an animated cartoon.

It’s a live action movie…probably. Wait, does that even count?

And It’s Not The First Movie To Be Ripped Off So Blatantly

I’m pretty sure you’re well acquainted with the movie, Mad Max, right?

Now, let’s play a game.

Haaaave you met Mad Sheila?

It’s basically a rip off of Mad Max with one crucial difference.

Max became a sexy, curvy lady called Sheila. Genderbend, people, something Aang the avatar just cannot do.

Instead of a buff dude going around saving ladies, it became a lady, Sheila, going around the desert and offing dudes wearing punk clothes.

And given how the Chinese are always looking for ways to make quick bucks, chances are these won’t be the last movie knockoffs you’d ever heard of.

Although granted, with American film companies trying to get into China, these knockoffs could become a thing of the past.

After all, nothing’s better than the original, right? At least not for the armoured war god, Sun Wukong.
