Chinese Tourists Climb Onto Ancient Horse Statues For Photos Despite Warnings From Buddhist Temple

When you visit a religious site, you have to adhere to its rules and regulations, it just comes with the territory.

I mean it is 2018 and it goes without saying that you should show deference when you step into a temple, whether it is native to your religion or not.

So what will you do if you see someone disrespecting a temple?

Something like this:

What happened

According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Chinese tourists were caught climbing on top of two horse statues at a Buddhist temple in Northen China during the Chinese New Year holiday.

The worst part is that the parents were helping the children to get onto the said statues despite it being fenced.

The fencing should be a clear indication that one shouldn’t touch it, let alone climb over it.

Here is the video that captured the whole incident:

As you can see, these genius people used the fencing as support.

SCMP mentioned that said tourists had been told not to climb the statues but they could not be stopped coz’ there were too many people.

In the video, you can see a monk telling them to get off the statue.

SCMP translated what he said: “Get off! How could you climb it when you’re at this age already.”

The statues date back to the Song dynasty (960-1279) and they were moved to the temple form the tomb of a general and son-in-law of the emperor, SCMP reported.

The government has made efforts to mitigate similar situations

Apparently, it is common to see presumptuous tourists, especially during holiday seasons, behaving offensively.

So, three years ago, China’s government created a “tourist blacklist” where they will be banned from travelling

Clearly, that doesn’t seem to work as there are still videos and photos of ill-mannered tourists.

This incident is a perfect case in point.
