2 Innocent People Had Been Injured in Clarke Quay Fight; 4 Men Have Been Charged for Rioting with Deadly Weapon

Nights out in the city could sometimes lead to more danger than originally planned.

Over last weekend, news of a big brawl that took place in Clarke Quay had made headlines for the bloodshed it caused and the large number of people involved in it.

Around 10:40pm last Saturday, 19 Dec, the police were alerted to reports of a fight along Eu Tong Sen Street among a two groups of people.

Videos circulating around of the incident showed the two groups screaming, some even hurling expletives at the others, where you can read more about the fight here.

Two people were found injured at the scene, a 27-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, who were then tended to and sent to hospital. However, the assailants had run away before the police arrived.

Other than the two victims, a shocking image of blood splattered all around the scene at the Riverwalk underpass was all that was left.

On Sunday, the Singapore Police Force shared a statement saying that a 40-year-old man had been arrested for his suspected involvement in the fight following on-scene investigations. He had been found hiding out in an alley near Carpenter Street bearing injuries.

Four other people aged between 21 and 34 were also arrested following investigations for allegedly rioting and causing assault with a deadly weapon during the fight.

After announcing that they were on a manhunt for the remaining combatants, the Police has now arrested seven more suspects, bringing the total number of arrested suspects to 12 people.

But how did the situation get so out of hand?

Innocent Couple Was Having Dinner

According to Wanbao, a couple who were out for dinner at The Tipsy Cow, a restaurant at the Central mall, was injured.

While still enjoying their dinner, the dispute began at around 10pm when someone barged into the restaurant and started flipping tables and throwing chairs while screaming at a group of patrons, said a staff member.

10 more people then ran into the joint and started fighting with that same group of patrons.

Upon seeing the fight, the couple proceeded to pay for their bill and left the restaurant.

However, while the man was standing outside the restaurant to smoke, the disputing group decided to come outside to continue their fight, where he and his female companion unfortunately got caught up in it as well.

They were apparently injured with a jackknife, causing the man to sustain injuries to his head and neck, causing him to have to lie down on the ground. With his cigarette still in his mouth, he seemed to be in extreme pain as he yelled while being attended to by medical staff later on.

The lady seemed to have injured her arm as well, for medical staff were also bandaging her arm nearby.

Thankfully, no staff or other customers at The Tipsy Cow were injured, as the establishment shared on their Facebook post the day after the incident.

Thanking customers for their concern, they assured that they’re still open as usual while still trying to return to normalcy.
