Cleaner Who Molested Female Passenger on Bus & Sec 3 Schoolgirl at Void Deck Given 13 Mths’ Jail

Molestation is more than just the violation of a body part.

It’s also a traumatising act that could lead to fear, depression or worse.

As such, one can’t help but wonder about the plight of the following victims…

And whether they can successfully overcome the trauma, to live normally once again.

Cleaner Who Molested Female Passenger on Bus & Sec 3 Schoolgirl at Void Deck Given 13 Mths’ Jail

According to TODAYonline, 59-year-old Ng Hock Chuan has been sentenced to one year and one month in prison for two separate counts of outrage of modesty.

He also faced a third charge of causing hurt to another individual.

According to the news report, Ng had committed his first offence on SBS Transit bus service 26 on 31 August 2019.

Having indulged in some beer, he had proceeded to take the bus near Geylang Lorong 23.

It was reportedly close to midnight.

After around 15 minutes, Ng pinpointed his victim, and moved to sit beside her.

The 36-year-old victim was asleep at the time.

Emboldened by her state of vulnerability, he proceeded to molest her over her clothes.

Ng’s illicit behaviour woke her up, and he reportedly said, “Nothing, lah, never mind. Just lay on me, it’s normal.”

Fearful, the woman then lost control of her bladder.

She eventually sought help from the bus driver, who halted the vehicle. Ng was then apprehended, and subsequently released on bail.

Forceful

Over a year later, Ng would strike again, this time laying his hands on a Secondary 3 student.

According to the news report, he had halted the student between 19 and 21 October 2020 at a void deck.

Having worked as a cleaner at her estate, he had reportedly called her several times, only to get ignored.

On this particular occasion, however, she responded, and complied with his request for her to go over to him.

She then sat next to him.

Ng seized the opportunity and moved closer to her, grabbing and fondling her thigh in the process.

Startled, she rejected his advances and stated a desire to go home.

Unfazed, Ng asked her to sit down once again, which the latter eventually did, albeit with some spacing in between.

Ng then moved closer and smelled her shoulders, which caused her to push him away.

Rather than retreat, he went for her thighs again.

She promptly left the scene.

Due to a desire to avoid trouble, she did not relate any of the events to her family members.

She only did so a week later, when she told her twin brother about what had happened.

Causing Hurt

The twin brother would go on to confront Ng that very same day, which the latter did not take to kindly.

Ng proceeded to push the boy on the chest, and even struck him on the back with a bamboo pole.

For his offences, Ng could have been sentenced to an imprisonment term of two years, a fine, or both.

Due to his age, however, he cannot be caned.

It should be noted that Ng had committed similar offences before, and was previously imprisoned and caned in 1997 and 1998.

Molestation

Over the last couple of months, reported news of molestation and even rape cases have proved particularly prevalent.

Though one could attribute the rise in trend to the stressful nature of the pandemic, one can’t help but wonder whether such offences have actually been prevalent throughout the ages.

The only difference? Victims are becoming braver by the year.
