I know you came to Goody Feed looking for goody news, but I have bad news as well.
The goody news is that for the first time in over two weeks, we finally reported fewer than 100 new COVID-19 community infections.
The bad news is that there’s a new cluster at the Changi General Hospital (CGH).
Reader: Wait, wasn’t there already a CGH cluster before this?
Well, yes and no.
8 New Clusters Reported, Including 1 at CGH
See, the Ministry of Health (MOH) closed a cluster at CGH on 31 July, which had 20 cases.
Naturally, given all that we and the hospital have been through, it would have been nice if the coronavirus avoided ever coming near CGH again.
But of course, it didn’t do that.
A new CGH cluster has formed, and all of its three cases are from a ward.
“These cases are not linked to the previous CGH cluster which has been officially closed by Ministry of Health on Jul 31,” MOH said.
As a precautionary measure, the hospital will not allow residents to visit affected patients.
Other operations at the hospital will continue, however, and patients can safely continue with their outpatient appointments, CGH said.
Besides the CGH cluster, 7 other clusters were identified. One was linked to construction firm Kian Hap Construction, which has six infections.
The other six clusters involve individual cases and have three to four cases each.
In total, we now have 100 active clusters.
22 more cases were added to the Jurong Fishery Port cluster, which now has 1,097 cases. It remains our largest active cluster.
98 Locally Transmitted Infections
Yesterday, 98 locally transmitted infections were reported, 31 of whom were unlinked.
As previously mentioned, this is the first time in over two weeks that the number of cases has fallen below 100.
The last time this happened was on 18 July, when there were 88 locally transmitted cases.
Four imported cases were also reported. All had already been placed on Stay-Home Notice (SHN) or isolated upon arrival in Singapore.
Three of them were detected upon arrival in Singapore, while one developed the illness during SHN or isolation.
592 Cases in Hospital
At the moment, there are 592 COVID-19 cases warded in hospital, most of whom are well and under observation.
37 severe cases require oxygen supplementation, and seven are in critical condition in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Six of these 44 cases are fully vaccinated. Of these, four require oxygen supplementation while two require intensive care as they have underlying medical conditions.
31 of the severe cases are seniors above 60 who have fallen very ill. Four of them are fully vaccinated.
Decrease in Community Cases
The good news is that the number of new community cases has decreased from 967 in the week before to 799 in the past week.
The number of unlinked cases in the community, however, has increased from 173 in the week before to 254 in the past week.
MOH reiterated that we will continue to see high numbers in the coming days as the ministry steps up efforts to detect even more cases.
Vaccination Progress: 63%
More good news: 63% of our population has been vaccinated, and 77% have received at lease one dose.
Additionally, 108,815 doses of the Sinovac vaccine have been administered as of Monday, covering 75,856 individuals.
Of the 66 severe cases that required intensive care, oxygen supplementation, or died, only six were fully vaccinated.
MOH emphasised once again the importance of inoculation, as it helps to prevent serious disease.
