Remember the good old days in primary school when you would prank your friends with a fake cockroach? Well, it turns out that someone might still be pulling that prank as an adult and, this time, with real cockroaches.
Multiple cockroaches were found at a fruit juice stall in Beauty World Centre, and the owner claims he’s being targeted as a prank. Other stall owners at the food centre have also claimed the same.
Cockroaches Crawling Out From Fruit Juice Stall in Beauty World Centre
So, what would you like in your fruit juice today? Apples, oranges, or perhaps some… protein on the side in the form of cockroaches?
Multiple cockroaches were seen crawling out from a fruit juice stall in Beauty World Food Centre—and we’re hoping those aren’t being added as extra ingredients in our fruit juices.
According to Shin Min Daily News, a diner at Beauty World Food Centre allegedly saw almost ten cockroaches crawling out from the fruit juice stall. Several dead cockroaches were also spotted on the ground outside the fruit juice stall.
Well, this just gave a new definition to “Wanted, dead or alive”.
As a result of the pests observed around the fruit juice stall, complaints have been lodged by members of the public to the relevant authorities.
Fruit Juice Stall Owner Claims He’s Being Targeted
However, before you boycott the fruit juice stall or the Beauty World Food Centre, you should hear the stall owner out—he claims he’s being “sabo-ed”.
Mr Qiu, the owner of the fruit juice stall, shared that after closing his stall daily, he would spend time cleaning the stall until as late as 11 pm.
It doesn’t make sense, does it, that there are still cockroaches infesting the stall. Mr Qiu’s claim that someone must be targeting him as a prank seems reasonable.
Regardless, staff at a nearby Bak Kut Teh stall in the food centre shared that the cockroaches’ mysterious appearance could be explained by a floor cleaning on Tuesday (25 April). She shared that the cockroaches might have been flushed out into the open after the floor cleaning.

Apparently, hygiene standards at Beauty World Food Centre aren’t as bad as this pest incident has painted it out to be.
In addition to using pesticides every month, the food centre contracts a pest control company that cleans the floors regularly. The stall owners are also held to a high standard of hygiene, wherein they are responsible for sanitising their stalls.
A 29-year-old diner at the food centre interviewed by Shin Min Daily News also shared that the hygiene standard at Beauty World Food Centre was already considered pretty good compared to other food centres.
We’ve all been there; the occasional food centre with pigeons flocking everywhere and uncleared tray return areas so full that placing your tray becomes a test of dexterity—no wonder you can’t be a dentist or a surgeon.
Although there aren’t many cleaning staff at the food centre, trays placed by diners at tray return areas were cleaned up quickly by the staff.
It appears that hygiene standards at the food centre are within reasonable measures. Yet, multiple complaints are still being lodged against the stall owners at the food centre.
Monkey Business at Beauty World Food Centre: Frequent Inspections by Authorities at the Food Centre
Alongside the fruit juice stall owner, other stall owners at Beauty World Food Centre have been the subject of recent complaints lodged to authorities.
This has led many stall owners at the food centre to suspect that someone has been deliberately lodging complaints to target the stall owners.
We know that Rifle Range Nature Park just opened nearby the food centre, but it doesn’t call for this sort of monkey business, does it?
The stall owners at the food centre shared that authorities from several agencies have come knocking five times in the past month alone.
That’s more times than your MP visiting you in person.
The food centre has attracted inspections from the Singapore Food Agency (SFA), the National Environment Agency (NEA), the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) and even the Singapore Police Force (SPF).
While SFA and NEA were likely at the food centre to follow up on the hygiene complaints, officers from MOM were deployed to the food centre to verify work permits.
We might as well bring in Ministry of Health (MOH) personnel to check on Ah Tan’s complaint about how the kopi has too much sugar or how the chicken rice has too much salt. Maybe make a video to post on a minister’s TikTok account while we’re at it.
Better yet, perhaps all the government offices can be shifted to Beauty World at this rate.
The 47-year-old owner of the North Indian food stall, which operates on the same row as the fruit juice stall, shared that in the past five years of his operations at the food centre, this is the first time authorities have come knocking on their doors so frequently.
Regardless, it appears that authorities have, thus far, yet to find any problems with the stalls at the food centre, even after their inspections.
Investigations Regarding Fruit Juice Stall’s Alleged Pest Problem Ongoing
However, the newest chapter to the “Complaints about Beauty World Food Centre” saga has yet to be concluded.
According to the SFA, investigations regarding the cockroaches spotted at the fruit juice stall are ongoing.
The SFA spokesperson emphasised food safety as a shared responsibility undertaken by the authorities and F&B operators. As much as the authorities may try to enforce food safety in F&B businesses, F&B operators must also play their part in abiding by food safety regulations and upholding good hygiene standards, including ensuring no cockroaches crawl out of your stall and up diners’ legs.
The SFA has also urged members of the public to report any violations of food safety regulations via their online feedback form.
