It’s officially been phase one for a few days.
Which means if you’re a student, you’re now on that alternating schedule between home-based learning and physical school. Yay!
Why the sudden silence, though?

Still, I think it’s only natural to be worried about safe distancing at school. Especially during recess since you still got to queue and sit at shared tables.
Aside from skipping school panicking, you can also take note from Commonwealth Secondary School’s solution.
Proper Partitions
And it’s a pretty creative one at that.
On 2 June, the school posted on their Facebook page the ‘new normal dining experience’.
Yup, those are literal partitions of blue and orange.
The school hopes that these partitions will reduce the possibility of droplet transmission when a person clears his throat or sneeze when masks are taken off during meal times.
Or if you need to sneeze, people won’t run ten metres from you since they’ll be pretty safe.

From the picture, you can also notice a box of tissues and a hand sanitiser at every table too. Much respect to the school for putting more virus-deterrence measures in place.
The partitions also indirectly allow the students to not sit so close to each other, another plus for social distancing!
Commonwealth Secondary also said that they are doing this in tandem with a staggered recess hour. This is likely to prevent overcrowding of canteens, saving quite a bit of space and worry of coming into contact with too many other students.
I’m mostly kind of jealous that they can use phones during recess though. Past me could only dream of this.Â

Generally Positive Feedback
Not a super-viral post, but the reception has been rather good.

As of this writing, it’s gotten over 140 likes, 18 comments 185 shares. Many were impressed with how the school has responded to the pandemic.
In fact, one person who shared it even had a good suggestion based on the idea.
You just have to hope that your favourite eating outlets survive long enough to even do this.
Other Safety Measures
That being said, just because your school doesn’t have something like this won’t mean your school is unsafe.
In fact, all schools will have a bunch of ‘Safe Management Measures’ they need to follow.

Firstly, students have to wear their mask or face shields around the clock besides during PE or eating. Teachers follow the mask rule as well.
Both students and teachers are required to wash their hands frequently: when they enter the school premises, before and after eating, and whenever they can.
Students will also be instructed to frequently wipe desks, sports equipment and even canteen tables too!
While we mentioned staggered recesses, this also applies to class hours and dismissals as well. If you’re lucky you won’t get the earliest morning slot.
A more comprehensive list can be found here.
Just remember that even at home, one should always maintain the same level of hygiene practice as well!
