People in India Turned ‘Count on Me S’pore’ into ‘Count on Me India’ With Almost Same Lyrics
Apparently, the patriotic song has been plagiarised almost completely and turned into a song about India.
And why do we say, almost completely?
Because the only thing that changed about the song is the mention of Singapore.
All the “Singapore” words in the song were cleverly changed to “India”.
The title of the plagiarised song was also amended to We Can Achieve.

There are many versions of the plagiarised song on YouTube, with many covers made in the past year.
Not A New Thing
Turns out, We Can Achieve isn’t a new thing.

The earliest version of the song seemed to have existed since 2016, with one woman using the lyrics as a tool to practise English.
Back then, the plagiarised song wasn’t as popular and it wasn’t known what made it popular this time around.

Given how Count On Me, Singapore has been played at every NDP, Singaporeans aren’t exactly impressed with the blatant plagiarisation.

Imitation is the best form of flattery.
The song was written in 1986, a time when Singapore was going through rapid economic transformation.
It was imperative, then, that Singaporeans are brought together and given a sense of belonging after the separation from Malaysia.
