And today’s announcement would explain why the “lockdown” is necessary, for we have 56 local cases today.

“Lockdown” in Singapore

Given that we’re still seeing more local cases, Singapore is going to implement a series of drastic measures from 7 April 2020.

For a start, all workplaces except essential businesses would shut down from 1 April 2020, so if you’ve long hair, you’d better head down to the barber now.

Below is a list of essential businesses:

  • All healthcare and social services
  • Food and related services
  • Energy
  • Water and waste management and environment
  • Transportation and logistics
  • Information and communications
  • Security operations
  • Facilities management and critical public infrastructure
  • Manufacturing activities key to sustenance and security
  • Banking and finance

Secondly, all schools would close from 8 April 2020.

And thirdly, everyone is advised to stay at home and only go out when necessary.

The measures, by right, should end on 4 May 2020, but might be extended if needed.
