People are naturally sensitive about large groups of people gathering together, given the nature of Covid-19.

And yet, while there are people who are contented to stay a homebody, there are those who don’t really care that it’s Phase 2 and Covid-19 safety measures still exist.

Whether at the beach

In the restaurants

Or as we know today, at the coffee shop.

Netizen Called Out a ‘Covid Party’ Whereby People Gathered in a Coffeeshop Like There’s Not COVID-19

In a video uploaded to Facebook Page Complaint Singapore, a large crowd could be seen gathering at a coffee shop allegedly located at 455 Sengkang West Avenue.

The huge group of diners seem to know each other and blatantly gathered in the open in groups of more than five.

People could also be seen flitting from table to table, not unlike what you usually see at wedding banquets.

Many were also not wearing their masks properly, even when they weren’t eating or drinking.

As for why this was described as a party?

Probably because of this flower arrangement which made netizens wonder if this is the coffeeshop’s first day of opening:

A Common Sight At Other Coffee Shops

Apparently, this situation isn’t as uncommon in Singapore as you think.

Reactions to the person who posted the video are mixed too, with some commending him for taking the video and getting away with it, while others condemned him for being a ‘snitch’ and ‘having nothing better to do’.

One thing for sure, though, posting such videos or images online might just get you into trouble with the law for doxxing.

Several Similar Incidents

This isn’t the first time that an F&B eatery allowed groups of more than 5 to dine at their place.

Previously, a hotpot restaurant allowed a group of more than 20 people to eat in their premises, among many other things.

This resulted in the restaurant getting fined $2,000 and suspended for 10 days.

Another restaurant, located in an isolated area, was also caught after receiving a tipoff and was suspended for 10 days.

It seems like people are getting comfortable with Phase Two and thinking that the dangers of Covid-19 have passed, which is not true.

As the government has shown in the migrant workers’ cases, the danger is never over.
