Our COVID-19 numbers have been looking pretty bad recently, but hey—on the bright side, at least we know that it probably isn’t because of a new “Singapore variant” of the virus.
And also, at least the number of unlinked cases is dropping.
As of 12pm today (19 May), the Ministry of Health (MOH) has preliminarily confirmed 38 new cases of COVID-19 infection.
34 of them are community cases, and 4 of them are unlinked. MOH will provide more details about the cases tonight.
This brings the total number of cases in Singapore to 61,689.
Overall, the number of new cases in the community has increased from 40 cases in the week before to 163 cases in the past week. The number of unlinked cases in the community has also increased from 10 cases in the week before to 48 cases in the past week.
Unlinked Cases Reported on 18 May Include Food Delivery Rider & A Clinic Assistant
Yesterday (18 May), Singapore recorded 38 new COVID-19 infections, including 27 community cases. Out of these 27, 11 were unlinked, including a food delivery rider and a clinic assistant.
The clinic assistant developed a fever, flu, and cough on 15 May and sought medical treatment at a polyclinic on 17 May, where she was tested for COVID-19.
Her test result came back positive for COVID-19 infection on the same day.
She completed her vaccination regimen on 14 May, and had received her first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on 15 April.
Her serology test result is pending.
The 40-year-old who works as a vending machine loader is also a food delivery rider for Deliveroo and Grab.
He developed a fever, cough, and runny nose on 16 May, and sought treatment at a GP clinic on the same day.
He was tested for COVID-19 on 17 May and was isolated after his ART came back positive. A PCR test also yielded a positive result on 18 May.
The man received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on 3 April and the second dose on 24 April.
His serology result is pending.
The remaining cases that were added to our count yesterday are:
- Three new community infections linked to the Changi Airport cluster
