Move aside, e-scooters. There seems to be a ‘new’ toxic transportation mode in town, and it’s one older than even Queen Elizabeth herself:

The cycling industry.

Multiple Cyclists Cycling in the Middle of the Road at Woodlands Centre Rd Obstructing Cars from Driving Properly

On 4 April 2021, Facebook user Amanda Mandy took to the social media platform to air her frustration against a group of cyclists she had encountered on the road.

“Is this even acceptable?” she wrote. “The cyclists were all over the road!!! So dangerous!!! How to drive you teach me?!”

She also attached a series of incriminating evidence, one of which was a 0:24 video clip.

In the clip, a group of cyclists seem to be manoeuvring freely on the road, taking up all lanes as they go.

Their actions seemed to cause distinct inconvenience to nearby vehicles, with one car forced to brake at multiple intervals because a cyclist was taking up space in front of it.

It was a notion that has since led to the public outrage of the Facebook user, as well as like-minded netizens.

Dissent

Despite being posted just yesterday (4 April 2021), the post has already garnered over 1.9K shares.

Numerous netizens have also publicly denounced the group of cyclists, with some calling for the intervention of sites such as SG Road Vigilante – SRV.

One noted how the cyclists seemed to behave as if the road was their grandfather’s property.

While another provided his own way of dealing with such cyclists.

It should be noted, however, that some were of the opinion that the cyclists were simply trying to cut into the right lane.

Due to miscommunication and a lapse in concentration, the cyclists ended up looking all over the place.

However, the thesis was subsequently disputed by another netizen.

Not The First Time

On 1 April 2021, local actor Tay Ping Hui shared his own altercation with a group of cyclists and that went viral, too.

According to the actor, he was on the left lane and had the right of way, when a group of cyclists rode out like it was “their ah gong’s road”.

Stunned, he had to step on the brake to avoid hitting them, and even then they allegedly looked at him like it was his fault.

“Let me be crystal clear,” he wrote. “There’s a majority of safe, responsible and defensive riders out there. But it’s always the small group of bozos that ruin everything for everyone else ain’t it? Many of them simply do not care. Why? Because they know whatever happens, there’s no way to identify them like a car, bike or any registered and insured vehicle.

“So now we have cases of cyclists blatantly breaking rules, damaging other vehicles, crashing into pedestrians, & simply riding away.”

He then suggested that bicycles, too, should be subjected to the license treatment so that they can be identified by authorities.

Like Facebook user Amanda Mandy’s version, however, Tay’s post was countered by a comment stating that the cyclists were not technically in the wrong.

Another netizen even suggested that Tay could have circumvented them easily considering the circumstances, and did not necessarily have to jam on the brakes.

Well, guess the debate between cyclists and car owners rages on.
