D5 Studio Image Responded To Viral $95K Reno Saga & It Raises More Questions

For reasons unknown, the $95K reno saga became one of the hottest topics in town at the moment.

Personally, I just find the entire incident to be really funny.

Just to give you guys a refresher course, the saga started when an episode of “Designer in the house”, a Channel 5 lifestyle series about home renovation, was uploaded onto Mediacorp Channel 5’s Facebook Page on 8 Feb 2018.

Viewers were shocked to find out that such a minimalistic renovation cost the homeowners $95,000!

Furthermore, it was revealed that one of the homeowners, Max Lee, is actually an employee of D5 Studio Image.

Naturally, netizens have a lot to say about these things:

Anyway, we’ve written two separate articles for this saga. If you really want to know the juicy details, do take a look at our article here!

Soon after, Mediacorp did a follow-up and confirmed that they were informed about the fact that Max is an employee of D5 Studio Image.

You can read about how this hoo-ha went down over here!

And now, D5 Studio Image is finally taking a stand on the matter.

Here’s their post on Facebook, dated 25 Feb.

Recently, we have received many comments on our episode on 'Designer in the house'. We apologised that we were unable to…

For the benefit of those who have no access to Facebook or simply too lazy to read, here’s a summary of what they are saying

TL;DR:

  • The program was filmed more than 6 months ago
  • They were unaware of how the final show would be edited and presented by Mediacorp
  • The show did not mention that the homeowners were actually consulted and well informed of all the prices and extended timeline
  • Other projects were also submitted, but Mediacorp chose Max’s house for its home design
  • Homeowners’ last-minute request for additional mechanisms from Germany had a delivery lead time of 3 weeks, resulting in the delay.
  • The house was customized and built from scratch, hence the $95K price tag
  • Max is, indeed an employee at D5 Studio Image
  • Max and Michelle did sign a contract with D5 Studio Image and paid for the services

…Wow, even the TL;DR ended up pretty lengthy.

As usual, let’s take a look at what the netizens have to say:

Hmm, now that he has mentioned, it does seem like D5 Studio Image is trying to disassociate themselves with Mediacorp’s decisions. If that’s the case, well, it’s only natural for them to do so.

(Hey, everyone’s gotta look after their own backside, ya know)

And most netizens simply aren’t buying it, with some questioning them regarding the time it took for them to reply.

However, there are still some questions begging to be answered.

When did Max join D5 Studio Image? When was Mediacorp informed of Max joining the company? Why did it take them so long to respond to everyone’s queries?

To be honest, I don’t think being overseas is a valid reason for the late reply.

Anyway, now that D5 Studio Image has responded, let’s sit back and see if Mediacorp will make another statement, eh?
