As the national day fireworks lit up the sky earlier this month, most of our faces also lit up in amazement.
Yet, one particular Singaporean allegedly had her face, quite literally, lit up.
A woman claimed her daughter had her face burnt by the National Day Parade (NDP) fireworks. And you can bet that the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) had something to say about it.
Woman Claims Daughter was Injured by NDP 2023 Fireworks
On Saturday (12 Aug), a woman named @rsutopia on TikTok shared a video recounting her experience watching the NDP 2023 fireworks.
More specifically, her daughter’s experience getting burnt by sparks from the fireworks.
Guess it wasn’t a very lit experience for the mother-daughter pair.
@rsutopia We were traumatized and ran around to find a medic. A big event but the medic station is unknown by many. People seem in disbelief hearing my explanation. No other casualties reported .. I hope that no one else was hurt , especially children 💔 Take a look around .. what could have hurt my girl other than the firework. It could have been worse as “the firework” hit near her eye . Alhamdulillah it’s didn’t 😭😭😭 #ndp2023 #ndp2023🇸🇬 #ndp #firework #sgtiktok #sgfyp #sgnews🇸🇬 #sadday #fireworkshowgonewrong #singaporetiktok #sgtik #trauma #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp ♬ original sound – 𝐃𝐡𝐢𝐚𝐡 𝐀𝐦𝐨𝐫𝐞 💜
According to @rsutopia, the mother-daughter pair was watching the NDP 2023 fireworks when her daughter shouted in pain—sparks from the fireworks had apparently hit her.
The worst thing? She was hit near her eye, leaving orange-coloured powder, red spots and a burning sensation on her skin.
Ouch.
Not such a happy national day after all.
Security Guard Of No Help?
That wasn’t all.
According to the TikTok, after the sparks hit her daughter, she immediately sought help from the security guard.
Yet, the woman alleged that the security guard failed to pull his weight—he brought the mother-daughter pair to the security control room instead of to medical personnel.
When the mother asked the security guard for a first aid kit, all he did was pass her wet tissues before pointing out the way to the ambulance.
The security guard’s a little confused, but he’s got the spirit lah.
Medical Personnel Also of No Help?
The pair’s challenges were far from over. When the woman finally brought her daughter to the ambulance, medical personnel allegedly asked whether the red spots and orange powder on her daughter’s skin could be rashes.
Ah… A circuit breaker medic, I see.
Fortunately, a second medical personnel assisted the mother-daughter pair and confirmed that the woman’s daughter had suffered a first-degree burn.
The pair were then given a water bottle and gauze to wash the burn. Yet, the woman had one last grievance: the medics did not have ointment to apply to her daughter’s alleged burns.
As a result, the woman’s husband had to resort to purchasing aloe vera gel from a Guardian store.
DIY lor. It plays into the NDP spirit of celebrating independence anyway.
MINDEF’s Response to the Woman’s Claims
MINDEF has since responded to the woman’s allegations.
According to 8World, MINDEF is aware of the woman’s plight and has reached out to her to offer further assistance.
Investigations thus far have revealed that on-site medical personnel did, in fact, render timely medical assistance to the pair.
So, who do you think is capping here?
The ministry also emphasised that safety at such events was a top priority and that sufficient safety measures were implemented at the NDP 2023 fireworks display.
These measures included establishing safety distance lines, strict crowd control, monitoring wind speeds, and deploying medical personnel and ambulances on-site.
Aiya, no matter how much you do, it’s always never enough lah. My ex also the same.
