S’pore Man Who Drives a $600K Nissan GTR Said He’s a Grab & Lalamove Driver

Platform workers are often perceived to be underpaid despite their long and tiring work hours.

Although some have proven otherwise, many people still don’t think it is possible to “make it” with the earnings of a platform job.

So it comes as no surprise that people are in disbelief upon finding out that this particular owner of a Nissan GTR is a Grab and Lalamove driver.

A GTR cost about $600,000 in Singapore.

Seriously though, who says platform workers aren’t capable of treating themselves when they want to?

Nissan GTR Driver Goes Viral on TikTok

User @koocester, who has previously gone viral on TikTok for approaching luxury car owners randomly and asking them for financial and life advice (and of course, also, “What do you do for a living?”), uploaded a video of the delivery driver on Monday, 6 March.

When asked what he did for a living, the driver smiled, saying, “I’m just a Grab driver bro!” to which the user responded, “Really!”

After that, the user asked the driver if he had any financial advice for someone in their 20s. He advised them to save regularly and to spend their money wisely.

He later added that the money earned should be given to their parents or anyone who needs it.

The curious user confirmed with the driver whether he was, in actual fact, a Grab driver. The driver mentions that he also does Lalamove.

Still in disbelief, the user asked him how he could still afford the Nissan GTR. The driver responds, “You need to save! Seriously! You got a long way to go!”

Disbelief Is the General Sentiment

Like the user, viewers on TikTok found it difficult to believe that the driver could afford the car due to the common stereotype that delivery workers only earn meagre pay.

Some fellow platform workers were curious about what magic tricks this driver was practising. This comment in particular, translates to “I’ve already been a Grab driver for six years, in which year do I get to use this?”

Some thought that he could be the CEO of Lalamove because, well, apparently to them it is impossible for employees themselves to afford such a car.

And of course, no Singaporean TikTok comment section is complete without pessimistic comments like these.

Whatever it is, we salute the driver for his contributions and efforts to serve us, and we will continuously applaud him and his fellow platform workers for their successes.

Not the First Time We’ve Seen Them Pull Through

Recently, on 22 February, delivery rider Ifah Wan took to TikTok in a now-deleted video to dismantle the stereotype that delivery workers aren’t able to earn much.

In the video, he mentions that, like himself, workers can earn $6,500 a month without working the “full seven days” but for “longer hours.”

He ends the video by saying, “So please don’t look down on us because maybe our salary is much more than yours.”

While some commended him for his efforts, most people in the comments criticised him for bragging about his salary, causing him to upload a subsequent video telling viewers to “relax.”
