Don Don Donki Opening a New Outlet At Downtown East

Residents of the East, rejoice, as it appears that this song will soon be heading to your vicinity.

Though rather than in digital form, the catchy tune will be available in its grandest version:

In-store audio.

Don Don Donki Opening a New Outlet At Downtown East

According to Facebook user Yiman Eng, a new Don Don Donki store seems set to open at Downtown East.

Or at least, that’s what the signs tell us.

Inviting visitors to “come hang out soon”, the Don Don Donki mascot Donpen cuts a charismatic figure as it hints at what’s about to come:

Fresh produce, and their ever-popular Japanese Sweet Potatoes.

From the looks of it, the new store is situated where the old food court was.

There’s also a McDonald’s outlet beside it.

And considering how ginormous the outlet appears at first glance, we’re expecting an equally humongous fare of quality goods.

And of course, that trademark theme song.

Great News

This is certainly great news, following the unfortunate closure of Don Don Donki’s Sweet Potato Factory at Changi Airport Terminal 3.

On 10 September, it was announced that their Changi Airport outlet will be ceasing operations.

The cosy store – spanning only 30.8-metre square, in stark contrast to its sprawling contemporaries – officially opened its doors on 1 May 2019.

Though unconfirmed, it’s speculated that the decision to bow out of the airport was likely a culmination of the Covid-19 travel ban.

With cross-border flying largely restricted for the domestic market, foot traffic was considerably miserable at airports.

Previously Thought To Be Tampines

Don Don Donki had previously announced their aim to secure a ten-store strong foothold on Singapore’s shores by 2020.

In July, it was reported that a ninth outlet was on course to bring them closer to that goal.

Unfortunately, the closure of the Changi Airport T3 Store sets them back further.

Since all existing outlets are exclusive to the Central and West regions, netizens pleaded for the Japanese megastore to set up shop in Tampines.

And for a while, we certainly thought that would be the case.

But hey, Downtown East is still a winner.

And it’s certainly a boon for those stuck in the East.
