Everything About the Confirmed COVID-19 Infections of Donald Trump & His Wife

If you live in the United States and your only source of news is press conferences from President Donald Trump, you’d think that the coronavirus was nothing more than Flu 2.0.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, Trump has repeatedly downplayed the virus, refused to regularly wear a mask, and constantly lauded himself for defeating the disease.

The US president even predicted early on that the coronavirus “will disappear,” that “it will go away,” and that it is “dying out”, despite knowing how serious the outbreak was.

Even though 200,000 Americans have died from the virus, Trump and his team have attempted to paint their handling of the pandemic as a success, claiming he acted swiftly and decisively, saving many lives as a result.

Now, however, Trump might find it a little more difficult to deny the severity of the outbreak in his country.

He might also regret not wearing a mask.

US President Donald Trump & Wife Have Contracted COVID-19

Trump and his wife have tested positive for Covid-19, the 74-year-old announced in a tweet on Friday morning (2 Sep).

The President’s physician, Navy Commander Dr Sean Conley, said that Trump received confirmation of the positive tests on Thursday evening (Singapore late morning).

“The President and First Lady are both well at this time, and they plan to remain at home within the White House during their convalescence,” Conley said.

Trump had tweeted on Thursday night that he planned to quarantine after one of his closest aides tested positive for the virus.

“Hope Hicks, who has been working so hard without even taking a small break, has just tested positive for Covid 19. Terrible! The First Lady and I are waiting for our test results. In the meantime, we will begin our quarantine process!” he tweeted.

Conley also said he expects Trump to continue carrying out his duties as President “without disruption”, which means we can expect more boasts about himself and shouts of “fake news!”

Trump: Some doctors say my coronavirus is bigger and better than anyone else’s, and that my test result was the most positive in the history of tests.

Threw Safety Measures out the Window

In the last few months, while rational Americans were practising social distancing and wearing masks, Trump held large campaign rallies that drew thousands of supporters without implementing any safety measures, such as safe distancing or the mandatory wearing of masks.

Moreover, at a presidential debate on Tuesday (29 Sep), none of Trump’s family members who attended the debate wore a mask, except his wife Melania.

The fact that Trump has contracted Covid-19 isn’t at all surprising. What is surprising is that he didn’t get it earlier.

Back in May, Trump said he had no concerns about getting the deadly virus, saying: “I felt no vulnerability whatsoever”.

As a 74-year-old man, however, Trump will be more vulnerable to serious complications from the virus, as the coronavirus disproportionately affects older people.

Even if he manages to recover from the disease, he’s going to find it hard to convince his supporters that Covid-19 is no big deal.

With the US election about a month away, Trump’s infection could not have come at a worse time.
