A horrific accident occurred last Friday (23 Oct).
A red Audi was driving along Woodlands Avenue 12 at a dangerously high speed in the nighttime.
According to Roads.sg, the car was allegedly racing a VW GTI in the rightmost lane.
Then, a van from the opposite side attempted to make a u-turn, but must have misjudged the speed of the oncoming Audi.
Similarly, the Audi mustn’t have seen the turning van, or assumed he could pass it, but he was wrong.
The Audi ended up slamming into the white van, causing both vehicles to spin out of control.
Due to the forceful impact of the crash, a person was sent flying out of the van’s window, and violently landed on the road.
It was later discovered that this victim was an 8-year-old girl.
4 people were sent to Khoo Teck Puat hospital after the accident, but the young girl suffered the most serious injuries, and had to undergo emergency surgery as she was in critical condition.
She is reported to have blood stasis in the rear-end of her brain, as well as fractures in both legs.
She is currently in a coma and her condition, sadly, has not improved.
Nothing will ease the anxieties of her parents now, but some kind-hearted individuals have offered to make things a little easier for them.
$12K Donation Raised for 8-YO Girl Who’s Still in a Coma After Woodlands Accident
Nearly $12,000 in donations have been raised to help cover the medical expenses of the eight-year-old child, according to The New Paper.
The girl, Lovelynn, is now in the intensive care unit at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital.
The fund-raising scheme was initiated by Andy Ang, a long time friend of the girl’s father, Eric Tan.
The pair have been friends for over six years.
“He has not been sleeping all this while. We can only help him by raising funds so he won’t need to be worried about the medical fees,” Ang said.
It’s unclear how much Lovelynn’s medical bills will end up costing, which is why Ang, along with other friends of Tan’s, are trying to raise as much as possible.
However, they are keeping the fund-raising period short for fear of scammers trying to profit from it.
As such, they will stop taking donations at 11pm today (28 Oct).
Other organisations have held fund-raising drives for Lovelynn as well, including Leong Nam Temple in Sengkang West, which is setting aside $10,000 for Tan and his family.
Speaking to Shin Min Daily News, the temple general manager said, “(Tan) has served the temple for more than 20 years. Although he may decline donations because he doesn’t want to trouble everyone, many people want to help the young girl.”
Grateful For Donations
In response to the donations, Ang told TNP he was grateful to his friend Ang and members of the public for their help.
“Now, my focus is on being in the hospital”, he added.
Lovelynn was one of four people who were hurt in the horrifying crash.
Tan’s 23-year-old nephew needed surgery as he had a ruptured spleen and facial injuries.
His youngest daughter, who is just six, was also in the van, but escaped unscathed.
Doesn’t Blame Brother-in-law
The person who was driving the van at the time of the accident was actually Tan’s 56-year-old brother-in-law.
He was later arrested for dangerous driving causing hurt.
Tan, however, does not blame him for the accident, saying his brother-in-law must already feel guilty about the accident.
“Nobody wants such a thing to happen,” Tan said.
One could blame the van driver for attempting to make a u-turn while an Audi was approaching at a high speed, but you could also make the case that the Audi was going way too fast, and that if he weren’t speeding, he would have been able to stop in time.
In any case, let’s hope the poor girl makes a full recovery.
