Don’t Say Bojio: FREE Carrot Cake in Bukit Panjang for 1 Day (29 Dec)

It doesn’t get better than this: a hawker stall in Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre is giving free plates of carrot cake tomorrow (29 December 2016) from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

And the reason for this? Simple: the hawker merely wants to thank you for the kind support in the last twelve months.

The stall, fondly known as Father & Son (父子檔), is located at #01-23 in the hawker centre. Each plate of carrot cake is originally priced at $2.30 (small) or $3.00 (big).

And well, if you’re wondering whether it tastes heavenly, let this picture do the talking:

See the number of newspaper articles pasted on his stall front? There’re so many, I think he has run out of space to add in new articles.

The terms and conditions are simple:
– Dine in only, no takeaway.
– One redemption per customer per day.
– Valid from 5:30 a.m. till 10.30 a.m. on 29 Dec 2016 only.
– While stocks last.
– Father & Son reserves the right to amend the T&Cs without prior notice.

Here’s their notice on their stall; if I were to use one word to describe it, it’ll be this: sincere!

This is also in conjunction with Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre’s one-year anniversary. If you were to remember, there was some hoo-ha when the hawker centre was due to open last year: hawkers need to cap the price of one dish to ensure that it’s affordable for the public. This is due to NTUC Foodfare, a not-for-profit social enterprise, taking over the management of the hawker centre instead of a Government organization or a commercial entity.

Some hawkers protested to the price cap, but one year later, guess what’re the results? For a start, there’s no doubt that residents in Bukit Panjang are happier (because cheaper food!). Secondly, the stalls will open longer, so there’re no worries of that dreaded “alamak, stall close liao”.

Thirdly, and most importantly, hawkers under Foodfare are happy, especially due to the cleanliness of the hawker centre (though, well, according to one hawker, they “keep checking” for cleanliness). Happier hawkers = better food!

Just so you know, NTUC Foodfare is going to manage more hawker centres. Will there be more, erm, giveaways? I don’t know about that, but I sure know that tomorrow morning, Bukit Panjang Hawker Centre is going to be crowded like siao.

And that maybe Joseph Schooling will be there. Just maybe.
