Don’t Say Bojio: Get a $0 Xiaomi Notebook Cos’ Xiaomi Is Taking Over The World

Okay, here’s my confession: To me, I’ve always associated MacBook with Starbucks, simply because I’ve often seen people using their MacBook in Starbucks as if the café rents it to its patrons.

But of course, that’s not true; I just thought that because MacBook is so damn good-looking, using a MacBook in Starbucks is like parking a Lamborghini in a 5-star hotel. It’s all about the atas-ness.

I mean, it won’t be cool to use a black and brick-looking laptop in Starbucks, right?
Jokes aside, numerous laptops have since followed MacBook’s sleek design, and now, you can see Dell, Acer or even Lenovo in Starbucks.

No longer do people Macbook & Starbucks. And you’ll see Xiaomi there soon, because the China company has just come out with a MacBook competitor, and it sure will give MacBook a run for its money.

With unboxing video so hot now, here’s one for you to drool over (it’s in Chinese, because China).

Known as the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air, it was launched in China on 2 August 2016, and the bad news is that currently, it still stays within the great wall of China. But read on because there’s always a way to bypass that wall.

Coming in two sizes, a 13.3-inch model and a 12.5-inch model, I won’t blame you for mistaking it as a MacBook Air.

Here are the specs summarized for you:

13.3” Xiao Mi Notebook  13” MacBook
Intel Core i5-6200U (which can go up to 2.7GHz) with 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, full HD resolution of 1,920 X 1,080-pixels and equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940MX graphics card GeForce GTX 940MX graphics card core speed is between 1,122MHz to 1,242MHz compared to Macbook Air’s Intel HD Graphics 6000 at between 300MHz to 1,000MHz
Good for gaming Good for sleek design
13 inch: 1.28kg and 14.88mm thick 13 inch: 1.35kg and 17mm thick
In China, the 13-inch model retails for 4,999 yuan: that’s about SGD$1,013. SGD$1,618

Marketed as a gaming laptop, you can expect the specs to blow you away: powered by an Intel Core i5-6200U (which can go up to 2.7GHz) with 8GB RAM, a 256GB SSD, full HD resolution of 1,920 X 1,080-pixels and equipped with a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940MX graphics card, you might just ditch your Pokémon GO and start playing DOTA again.

MacBook Air, although still powerful, just could not hold its ground with the beast from Xiaomi. While the ram and processor are on par with Mi Notebook Air, Mi Notebook Air’s graphic card smokes the Macbook Air: the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 940MX graphics card core speed is between 1,122MHz to 1,242MHz compared to MacBook Air’s Intel HD Graphics 6000 at between 300MHz to 1,000MHz.

Here’s when Xiaomi shows us why it’s confident to be up against the legend: it looks just as good, or even better.

But MacBook is all about its design, right? Here’s when Xiaomi shows us why it’s confident to be up against the legend: it looks just as good, or even better. Outlook-wise, they look relatively similar, but delve into the size and you’ll give Xiaomi a “赞”.

The 13-inch Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air weighs merely 1.28kg and measures 14.88mm thick. In comparison, the 13-inch MacBook is 1.35kg and 17mm thick. In Starbucks the world of design, every single gram and millimeter count, so Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air definitely has an edge.

Without any logo when the laptop is closed, Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air could pass off as an Apple, a Dell or an Acer. But hey, there’s no need to, because Xiaomi has its own distinct branding: it’s affordable and sleek, giving atas a new price altogether.

Xiaomi is famous for its low price, and here’s where you won’t be disappointed: in China, the 13-inch model retails for 4,999 yuan: that’s about SGD$1,013. The MacBook Air (with 256 GB hard disk) retails for SGD$1,618—which, well, isn’t unexpected.

Since Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air only retails in China, you can of course still get it from taobao.com as long as you can Internet (you reading this means you knowing how to Internet!).

Shopping from taobao.com means you not only need to pass your Chinese examination during your O-level, but you need to be able to read Chinese newspaper with ease. If you can’t, there’s always an agent like ezbuy.com for you.
