Drivers With Dark Tinted Windows Cannot Drive Into JB Anymore

I‘m pretty sure that when you get your first car (if ever, after the zero growth policy), you’re excited about all the things you can do to it.

Drive like F1 Along Lim Chu Kang Road

Please don’t do that.

Zhng it until it looks like an almost-legit GTR

Let me present…the Ah Beng car.

And put in dark tinted windows so you can do whatever the hell you want inside.

Some Singaporeans would probably do #3. No harm mah.

Despite the fact that it’s technically considered illegal modification.

Well, guess what? If you want to continue driving into JB for cheap petrol, food and massage, you cannot do it liao.

Here’s what you need to know.

Foreign vehicles with dark window tints will not be allowed to enter Malaysia.

On 19 Dec, it was reported that Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Aziz Kaprawi announced that this directive will be carried out the Road Transport Department (RTD).

Users might argue that dark window tints have health benefits like keeping the interior of the car cooler (so your car uses up less energy for air con) and protecting your eyes from UV rays, but the Malaysian authorities felt that tinted windows are a big security risk.

They’re afraid that the cars with heavily tinted windows might be used to smuggle extremists or drug traffickers (and drugs) into Malaysia.

So what should you do?

Remove the tint lor, the Deputy Transport Minister said. Okay, not in those exact words but you get my drift.

FYI, the permissible tint levels are a minimum of 70 percent visible light transmission levels for the front windscreen and 50 percent for other windows.

That, or if you really have a condition that requires your windows to be tinted to that extent, you’ll have to show supporting documents. But no guarantees lah.

But here’s what I’m thinking, cannot roll down all windows when passing the checkpoint meh? #JustSaying

Not that I’m really pissed about this because…I don’t have a car. A poor writer here, remember?

How long do you think it’ll take before SG puts in the same rule?
