Whenever you get into your car, it’s a good practice to lock the doors.

You never know when something might happen, and while Singapore is a generally safe country, we can’t say the same when we travel overseas.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry.

One Malaysian lady shared her story of how she forgot to lock her car doors after entering it with her child, and almost risked someone entering her car.

What Happened

According to Harian Metro, a 42-year-old mother by the name of Halliza Othman said that she found herself in a dangerous situation on the highway when a strange man ran towards her car and tried to open one of her car doors.

The incident happened in the evening on Sunday, 1 December. She was driving towards Kampung Baru at 6pm and was at Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan when four cars suddenly stopped in front of her in the middle of the highway.

Thinking that an accident may have happened, she waited patiently behind them.

And that’s when he spotted him.

A seemingly drunk foreigner was running around in the rain and banging on the doors of the cars on the highway. A Toyota Hilux was two cars ahead of her and he tried to climb onto that vehicle but failed, so he moved on to the next few cars.

He knocked on the window of the car in front of her, but the driver didn’t budge either, seemingly afraid of what this man wanted, so he moved on and approached Othman’s car.

He knocked on her bonnet and proceeded to her back door to try to open it. At that moment, Othman realised she hadn’t locked her car doors and quickly did so.

A Frightening Realisation

If she had not done so, the drunk man would have been able to enter the car from her back door. And the scariest part was that her child was seated right next to the door he tried to forcefully open.

Can you imagine what would have happened then? Who would have known what he would do?

The man once again failed in his attempts so he tried to get onto the back of a motorcyclist behind Othman, but that motorcyclist pushed him off.

Othman was really scared, as one would be, as she tried to clear her thoughts and drive off. She was so nervous that her hands and legs were trembling.

I don’t think I would be able to do anything either if I found myself in a situation like her.

This ordeal lasted for about seven minutes, but I’m sure to Othman, it felt like a torturously long time.

Who Is That Man?

According to residents living in the area, the foreigner was apparently having a few drinks with his friends but they got into a fight during the session. As a result, the foreigner was actually running away from his friend who was chasing him, probably to attack him.

Although Othman was afraid, she noticed the fear in the man’s eyes and she likened his look to that of a small child’s. She mentioned that she would help him but she couldn’t risk it especially when she had her child with her in the car.

After the incident, she reportedly developed a fever, likely because of the stressful situation.

She said that she hasn’t reported this incident to the police, but commented that the area was very unsafe and was usually filled with foreigners who would drink and fight.

She hopes that the police will do more regular patrols there so as to maintain peace and order there.
