A rear-end collision between a silver sedan and a Go-Ahead bus on Tuesday, 13 May 2025, around 2:00 PM revealed more than just a traffic accident.

The crash happened near the junction of Punggol Road and Sengkang East Way.

Mr. Lee (name transliterated from Mandarin), a 70-year-old taxi driver, alerted Shin Min Daily News about the severe traffic accident where victims needed emergency medical attention.

He walked past the scene around 3:00 PM and saw the aftermath of the accident. A sedan had rear-ended a bus, and several ambulances were seen parked behind.

Medical personnel performed CPR on a female victim lying on a stretcher before transporting her to the hospital.

Reporters arrived at the scene around 4:00 PM. The bus and Toyota sedan were still on the road with police officers maintaining order and gathering evidence.

The sedan suffered extensive damage with a collapsed front, twisted hood, shattered windshield, and numerous car parts scattered across the ground.

The front seat airbags were deployed, with blood stains visible on the driver’s side airbag. The left rear section of the bus was also damaged.

Suspicious Behaviour and Fatal Outcome

An eyewitness, Mr. Cai (name transliterated from Mandarin), 43, revealed that after the male driver was helped to the roadside, he made a phone call. About ten minutes later, a middle-aged man rushed to the scene.

The man allegedly attempted to remove a black bag containing items from the car under the driver’s instructions, but police officers stopped him.

“Calling someone to rush to the scene to secretly take away a bag looks very suspicious,” Mr. Cai said.

He also spotted what appeared to be unopened electronic cigarette components that had fallen inside the car, raising suspicions about prohibited items hidden in the car.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force confirmed they received an alert about the incident.

A spokesperson stated that one injured person was sent to Sengkang General Hospital while another was transported to Changi General Hospital.

Multiple witnesses pointed out that a female passenger in the front seat of the sedan sustained serious injuries in the accident.

Mr. Cai told reporters that while the male driver sat resting by the roadside after the crash, the woman lay immobile on the road.

He claimed the driver showed no concern for his female companion and even smoked by the oil-stained roadside, which Mr. Cai found morally unacceptable.

“At the very least, you were travelling together. Even if you’re not related, someone is fighting for their life, how can you act so casual?” he said.

Police confirmed the accident occurred. A spokesperson revealed that the 30-year-old male driver was conscious when taken to the hospital, while the 28-year-old female passenger was unconscious when transported to the hospital and later died in the hospital.

Electronic cigarettes were found in the vehicle. Offences related to electronic cigarettes will be handled by the Health Sciences Authority. The case is still under investigation.
