Elderly Man Seen Pushing Huge Stack Of Cardboards Reveals He’ll Only Get $3.10 From It But Has ‘No Choice’

To the average Singaporean, $3.10 is of no exceptional value. Sure, you’ll probably get a minor heartache upon realising your loss of exactly $3.10, but let’s face it; it’s more of a blow to your lunchtime plans, than your livelihood in general.

And to enunciate that hypothesis of mine, let’s take a brief look at the following (entirely real, non-deep fake) conversation:

“OMAGAWD I LOST $3.10!!” Person A screamed.

“Yeah, so?” scoffed Person B.

“What do you mean ‘yeah, so?’ IT’S MONEY!”

“Let me ask you the most pertinent question in the world: is it gonna cost you an arm or leg?

“Well, it’s more of my Ananas chicken rice than my limbs, BUT-”

“And there you have it. Stop complaining like a little female puppy and just eat already. My treat.”

Yeah, probably something like this. The bottom line here?

It’s a monetary value that’s — to most Singaporeans at least — probably not worth going the extra mile for.

Elderly Man Seen Pushing Huge Stack Of Cardboards Reveals He’ll Only Get $3.10 From It But Has ‘No Choice’

But not everyone faces the same reality. Nor the same circumstances, while we’re at it. While most would scoff at the notion of performing a menial task for $3.10, this elderly man thinks otherwise:

For that $3.10, he’s willing to brave the twin dangers that have haunted many a frazzled pedestrian:

The road and the rain.

On 13 December 2019, Facebook (non-profit) group Happy People Helping People Community posted a 6:28 long video clip on the social media platform, in which a group of volunteers could be seen helping a 75-year-old man by pushing his load of cardboard together with him.

They could also be heard conversing animatedly as they hurried the load along.

“We bumped into this 75-year-old Uncle pushing his huge stack of boxes in the rain. He can barely see the road in front of him because of the height of his load,” the Facebook caption, that was inscribed alongside the publication of the video, read.

“He’s one of the most friendly, funny and chatty Uncles from Toa Payoh. We had a good chat with him on the way to the collection point.”

While crossing the road, a volunteer could be heard stating that pushing his trolley on the road could get “dangerous”. In response, however, the man simply said:

“No choice.”

“When asked why he did not use the pavement, he said the pavement’s ground not level and his boxes may fall off his trolley,” the caption continued.

“This stack of cardboard boxes that he collected earns him $3.10.”

The elderly man was evidently gratuitous for the help as well, as can be seen by his verbal appreciation towards the good Samaritans while traversing together.

Netizens Were Full Of Love

And well, suffice it to say;

The comments section was full of love.

Though of course, some of the love rapidly evolved into anti-government pep talk:

But let’s not turn this article into some mainstream anti-government propaganda because you’re probably gonna have to hear your parents rant about it later on anyway. Instead, let’s express a solid thumbs up for the elderly man (as well as the volunteers):

And we hope that circumstances will change.
