At this point, everything you read on the news can be rather depressing thanks to our dear friend Covid-19.

It seriously makes me wonder what on earth we used to talk about before this virus existed.

Reader Bao: Armpit hair

Oh, right, I almost forgot.

And obviously, everyone is affected by the situation in different ways. Some have no food, while others have no toilet paper.

As unfortunate as it is, the way that this group of elephants dealt with their shortage of food is probably the funniest Covid-19-related article that you might ever read.

Elephants Got Drunk On 30kg Of Corn Wine

China was the first country to be hit by the deadly coronavirus, and millions of people in the country were placed on lockdown in order to contain the outbreak.

In China’s Yunnan province, these bunch of 14 elephants probably came to the realisation that it had been a long time since they had seen some people.

Thus, they decided to break into a nearby village and figure out what the hell was going on. That, or they were just hungry and looking for food.

The elephants were in luck, because they stumbled upon 30kg of corn wine and ended up drinking all of it.

Then, they got too drunk and ended up passing out in a nearby tea garden with adorable smiles on their faces.

If only humans looked this cute when they’re drunk.

The Post Went Viral

The pictures were uploaded to Facebook by Epicalyptic, along with the caption:

“While humans carry out social distancing, a group of 14 elephants broke into a village in Yunan province, looking for corn and other food. They ended up drinking 30kg of corn wine and got so drunk that they fell asleep in a nearby tea garden.

I definitely feel bad for the owners of the plantations, but come on, just look at the smiles on their faces.

It really is nice to see pictures of peaceful, happy elephants in the midst of all the panic going on all around the world.

Elephants Are Actually Huge Lovers Of Alcohol

A conservationist, Parveen Kaswan, took to Twitter to explain that elephants actually do have an affinity for alcohol, and they even mark the spots where they were successful in finding it so that they can return to them.

Wow. Who would have thought that these adorable creatures are secretly alcoholics?

Apart from sharing these fun facts, Kaswan also brought up that elephants are actually very close to going extinct in China.

“Today there are only some 250 elephants in whole China. There was a time when #elephants were present in all parts #China. As Thomas Trauttman says Human waged a 3000 year war there, and elephants lost. Now on verge of local extinction,” he wrote.

Okay, I guess there is still something depressing about this article.

However, there are protection efforts being put in place in the Yunnan province, and a new Asian elephant research centre will also be set up soon to study their habitat, behaviour and genetics.

Hopefully, these efforts will prevent the species from going extinct in China.
