Motorcyclist Almost Got Hit on the Head by Barrier when Tailgating a Car out of Vivocity

How far would you go to evade a hefty parking fee? Because for one motorcyclist, it meant tailgating another car…

Compromising both his face, and self-respect, in the process.

Oh and not to mention; he nearly faced instant karma too.

Motorcyclist Almost Got Hit on the Head by Barrier when Tailgating a Car out of Vivocity

According to Stompa motorcyclist has been caught tailgating a vehicle out of VivoCity carpark.

The incident reportedly occurred on 6 April.

In a video clip shared with the local journalism site, the motorcyclist could be seen shooting surreptitious glances at his surroundings, as he slowly edges up to the camera.

When the car moves past the barricade, the motorcyclist follows suit, and nearly gets hit by the barrier.

Keyword: nearly.

Apart from escaping instant karma, the motorcyclist also manages to escape a potentially hefty parking fee… a notion that has since displeased both the Stomper and the online community.

“The motorcyclist tailgated his way out of VivoCity carpark at around 1:57PM,” the Stomper said.

“I hope you could highlight this as the motorcyclist almost got his head hit by the barrier while doing so.”

“Cheapo”

Netizens have since expressed their disapproval over the incident, with some terming the motorcyclist as a “cheapo”.

“Bloody cheap b*sturd,” one commented. “No money to pay motorcycle pathetic parking charges, then don’t ride and definitely don’t go Vivo.”

Others lamented how the barrier had failed to hit him.

“Too bad,” one wrote. “That barrier could have knocked some sense into him.”

“Low-class cheapo rider,” another stated. “Should make it a fast action barrier installed with sharp blades.”

Apparently, bikers are ‘known’ to perform such gimmicks.

“COMMON,” one professed. “Many bikes don’t pay for parking. They either do this or they squeeze between the gaps. Anyway, its the management’s problem. They allowed the bikes to come in, so they have to think of a way to collect the fees.”

A Netizen, however, cautioned against the performance of such acts.

“Don’t endanger yourself for avoiding to pay parking fee,” the comment reads. “If get caught, have to pay penalty which is much higher than the paying fee.”

Circumventing Such Notions

Back in 2018, it was announced that the Housing and Development Board (HDB) will be implementing a Tailgating Detection System (TDS) in its car parks from 2018.

In a press release, HDB said that the TDS will use video analytics to identify tailgating vehicles in real time. This will enhance enforcement measures against tailgating motorists who purposely want to siam (avoid) parking charges.

It is essentially an improvement from the previous system, where a manual process of scanning CCTV footage and checking the vehicles’ payment records is required to identify vehicles which tailgate or bypass gantries.

Well, maybe it’s time for malls to do the same.
